Austrian Soprano
Sister of the famous tenor and opera singer Karl Streitmann (1858-1937). She was the daughter of a Viennese banker and studied with her aunt, the famous opera singer Rosa Csillag (1832-92) and debuted with her in 1877 in Vienna in a concert. Her stage career began at the Vienna Carl Theatre in the French operetta "La jolie parfumeuse". After she had in 1880 great success in the world premiere of the operetta "Donna Juanita" by Franz von Suppé on the same theater, she was soon regarded as one of the most important opera singers in the imperial city of Vienna. First, at the Vienna Carltheater, then at the Theater an der Wien, she was successful in the classical Viennese operettas by Johann Strauss, Millöcker, Suppe and in the works of other masters, but also in French and English operettas. She sang on 01.02.1879 in the premiere of Suppé's "Boccaccio" at the Carl Theatre as Fiammetta.She appeared in the world premieres of the Johann Strauss operetta "Der lustige Krieg" (25.11.1881) as Elsa and the two operettas by Millöcker "Der Feldprediger" " (10.31.1884) and "Gasparone "(01.25.1884 as Sora. all at the Theater an der Wien. She achieved success through her technically excellent educated voice as well as by her graceful stage presence.. In a tour of Russia she excelled in roles such as Adele in "Die Fledermaus", the Ganymede in Suppé's "Schöner Galathee", as Carlotta in "Gasparone" by Carl Millöcker and Giroflé in "Giroflé-Girofla" by Charles Lecoq. After her return, she sang first at the Berlin Walhalla theater, then interrupted her career, and for some years made only a few guest appearances. In 1896 she appeared again in Vienna with the Josephstadt theater and in 1897 was again a member of the Carl Theatre. After a brief appearance at the Hamburg Central Theater in 1900, she finally ended her career and remained in Vienna as a teacher.
