Hooded Ladies'-tresses

Hooded Ladies'-tresses
Hooded Ladies'-tresses, Spiranthes romanzoffiana, like wet meadows and that is where we found these, in as wet meadow along the Madison River in Yellowstone National Park. In fact we found them in several of the geyser basins as well and along the Gibbon River. The common name, Ladies'-tresses, refers to the braided appearance of the flower spikes, not very evident in this picture.

Shimmering beauty. Love the individual blossoms, so pretty and dainty. I love how there is a crisp blossom showing left, center and right so you can get a very good look at what each blossom looks like on this stalk. Knowing how these flowers are, they are not nearly so special looking when standing at a distance. They are pretty but to me, the individual blossoms are each spectacular but not easy to show off. WELL DONE!!!
