Still Life: Celebration

Still Life: Celebration
Now and again, I do try to take something different to my beloved landscapes. Just recently I had the pleasure to choose the subject of the Ipernity SPC monthly competition to be 'Still Life'. Here is one of my three contributions which came runner-up (2nd) along with Steve Paxtons 'Red Wine' to Mariagrazia Gaggero - 'Facciamo il pesto!' who won first place.
A great competition and one that I would heartily recommend all Ipernity members to have a go at. The next comp will be announced on the 12th of the month.

A very nice picture, for me made special by what look like splashes of water on the table top.

Thanks Peter. The splashes were an afterthought. I wish now that I had used some coloured water perhaps. You know what they say about discretion my friend. :)

Thanks Percy. In truth, I have takes the odd still life throughout my photographic life but not many for the last few years. The winner of the SPC monthly competition chooses the next subject and I could see that this had not be chosen for a very long time and so it was a challenge for me too.

In some ways Maurice it takes more thought to do one of these, for every step must be pre-prepared before actually shooting it. As it was my choice (was I being foolish?) for the competition I really wanted to do well, so some experimenting and research had to be done too.

The first in a new series of still-life for me taken after deciding that I would pick still-life as my subject for this months competition. I was very happy that it came second. I did experiment with the lighting. Behind the black pan background was a bright kitchen window! This is our kitchen worktop.
