The primeval Caledonian Forest

The primeval Caledonian Forest
It once covered the whole of Scotland, a vast primeval wilderness of Scots pine, birch, rowan, aspen and juniper, and now the Caledonian Forest is considered one of the most important habitats for biodiversity conservation in Scotland. Taken just outside the Cairngorm village of Kingussie. Enjoy this primeval glimpse of moss covered trees and imagine the sound of the stream that accompany this, maybe too, the fantasy creatures that might inhabit this stretch!

Essential full screen

Richard Nuttall, Bergfex, Nouchetdu38, Jörg and 20 other people have particularly liked this photo

Thanks Toz, a favourite type of scene for me, tying in nicely with my fantasy gaming and reading. Lots of the woods in this steep damp valley was like this but the stream adds a little more here too.

Such a magical image..............with a real other-worldly feel to it................I also thought of hobbits and elves when I saw this Herb.

I love the moss and lichen covered trees especially and the little stream complements them beautifully. Great work sir!

A magical scene in the same vein that I have sometimes seen old paintings in stately homes. A wonderful spot that I could have spend hours just gazing and trying to spot the fairy's here.

Cheers for the call and observations Keith. Herb

Good to see you David. Very happy that you like the mix of colours here which are in fact very subtle. As you say it does make it special.

Best Wishes, Herb

A marvellous (and beautifully presented) image of this interesting forest, so different from any here.

Thanks George, a rare sight for me too, to see woods like this is quite enthralling. Very glad you liked my presentation of it too. I am always worried that my personal framing will not be to everyone's liking.
Keep good and I hope you many burned trees soon recover too.

Cheers, Herb

An other worldly location, home of the wild haggis, an elusive creature only rarely seen...

I though I saw a wild haggis in the corner of my eye -just behind that far tree, or was it an Orc?

Glad you liked it my friend.

A smashing shot indeed of this ancient woodland Herb and a rare sight indeed these days just like the Pine Martin .. wild cat and Capercaillie that frequented such habitat ..

A vision of a lost world for sure Steve. We did in fact do the famous wild-cat walk around here some years ago too but like Pine Martin and Capercailie, most illusive! Glad you enjoyed this.
