Kaunos and its Theatre

Kaunos and its Theatre
The theater of the ancient city of Kaunos, dated circa 2nd century BCE. Its capacity was 5000 people. A large wall supported one side of the theater, while the other half was built into the hillside. An innovative periaktos, a device that allows for revolving and rapid change of scenes (sets), also existed at this theater – perhaps the oldest one of its kind. In the distance you can see the Dalyan Delta.

Beautiful. The two times I was in Turkey I was in similar places, in the area but not here.

Always good to walk in the footsteps of real history George. Not much of this sort of thing in Australia? I think you too will have visited many ancient sites around the world too.

This old city was build on fairly high. With great views on three sides. A fine place for a short visit for sure.

My pleasure peter. There are certainly many similarities between this and the one at Perganon (Where I have not visited). As you say, stemming from the same period. You will have to re-post yours on here now. I still have many Panoramio photos that I have meant to re-post here but I have a job just replying to comments on my live photos.

Cheers, Herb

Good to see you again Daniela. This place is a bit out from anywhere and was part of a special bus trip for us.
