A Devonian Highland cow.

A Devonian Highland cow.
For some reason, I am still pleasantly surprised when I see these splendid creatures outside Scotland. This girl was cooling her feet (as is quite usual for Highland cattle) in this small lake just off the coast at South Milton Sands here in Devon.

Enjoy full size.

This an udderly delightful image Herb................they're such majestic looking animals. The light in this scene is really beautiful and your depth of field is perfect. I especially like that you've caught the water dribbling from her mouth! I like the partial reflection too.

Well worth a yellow star sir!

Thanks for that udderly delightful comment too my friend. I like these animals but one has to try to get them in a good landscape for best effect. I was lucky, the lighting was good here. I had in fact only just got out of the car and as usual looked over a slight boundary hill to spy this water with the cattle bathing. The rest is history. so good that you enjoyed it.
Regards and thanks for the star. Herb

They are so beautiful Herb. A lot of them on the Somerset Levels. I like that you have caught the swish of the tail and as Keith says, dribbling from her mouth. Another star from me!
Cheers, Rosa.

They are so delightful and as Betty above implies probably make good friendly pets too :) The water environment here is perfect for me -as well as for you it seems.

Cheers for the star. Herb

A lovely clear photograph Herb I like the side light on the beast. These highland cattle do seem to like a paddle, I only ever see them standing in water.

Thanks Maurice. Yes the last time I saw some was near Crathie in Scotland, and as you say they were all standing in the great royal river there.

It's a superb image, Herb. I remember first seeing this breed of cattle at the Hebrides. I love the lovely tones of green and reflection and of course...this beautiful cow, so finely captured in your picture. Here time seems to have stopped...congratulations.

Good to see you again Adele. I would not have thought that a picture of a cow would bring so much heartfelt comments here, but I see it does. You saw them then in their natural home. They are beautiful beast for sure and so it is my pleasure to have captured it in this wonderful lighting and environment for you. Glad you enjoyed it. Herb

It's better not to bother her too much. It could be dangerous if she goes into attack mode. :)

Thanks for this my friend. In practice, I keep well away from them. I know they can be 'skittish'.

Adding my kudos - uh -- cow-dos?
Herb Riddle club has replied to Sarah P.
As they, in theory stem from Scotland maybe we should say kooo-dos. I remember us staying in a lonely Scottish cottage where the neighbour was to bring us fresh milk... on arrival there, she apologised with "I'm sorry that I have no milk, the koooo's deed!" :)

Besy Wishes, Herb

Hi Herb

I really like this, but considering a very hot July, and a lot of fur, what else to do except cool off in the water?

Best Wishes, and a good weekend
Peter

You are right Peter -it was one of our hottest days of the year but fortunately a little cooler here than in most parts that day. Glad you liked it.
