The Windmills of Mandraki

The Windmills of Mandraki
Coming into Rhodes just as night descended, we were lucky to see and walk past these famous windmills. Situated on the long wave breaker at Mandraki harbour stand these three medieval windmills which once ground the grains unloaded from merchant vessels in the harbour. Today, they still stand there, a proud reminder of a great past!!

Glad you liked it Rosa. It was a bonus night stopover here to make up for not getting to Santorini.

A superb low-light shot Herb................I really like the warm light on the mills and they stand out nicely against the background. A lovely clean shot as well especially considering the high iso used.

I think that all these Greek windmills are similar but these, like most other did not have the small triangular cloth sails mounted. - Yes this trip was indeed a Greek Island cruise with Turkey thrown in, as we could not get into Santorini because of too much wind.

That's a pity. I was only half a day in Santorini coming with the boat from Crete after 5 hours of navigation and other 5 hours to do to go back. I would love to visit again for a little more time. Cheers, Dany
