Spanish Bluebells

Spanish Bluebells
Taken from my garden and photographed indoors.

This species of bluebell was introduced to the UK by the Victorians in the early 1900s as a garden plant, but have since escaped into the wild and have spread across the country,.

Although Spanish bluebells are not on the invasive species list, there are worries out how they affect our native species of bluebells, because they readily spread and can outcompete them and hybridise them.

We have lots of these in the garden, despite the fact we keep digging them up and putting them in the compost bin (after the photos of course).

Fred Fouarge, Jean-louis Thiaudiere, ROL/Photo, Anton Cruz Carro and 13 other people have particularly liked this photo

Beautifully staged in this picture. Precise focus and the many shades of blue portray these bluebells very impressively, Keith.

A lovely floral image Keith, they are nice flowers but a nuisance if you want to keep English Bluebells they are so vigorous can only assume that birds brought seeds

Thanks for your visit and kind comments Peter. You're probably right about the birds..........I've lived in this house since the early 80's and have never actually planted any blue bluebells, but we've always had them, despite our best efforts! I could probably use weed killer on them, but we don't use chemicals in our garden.

A perfect photo! Spanish bluebells are the only sort we see in Germany- I hope English wild bluebells will continue to thrive!

Thank you so much Gudrun...........I'm glad you like the photo.

I can't deny that the Spanish variety are really lovely..!!

Most of the English variety live in the wild and it's a bit early for them yet, but I'll be out looking for them in a week or so.

I hope you're having a lovely weekend.

Revenge is served cold. I'll be looking for english bluebells that will end up in my compost bin. LOL.
Great photo, Keith. My mom's house is full of these bluebells. It may be that from there spread to the rest of the world.

Ha ha...........that's cruel Anton :-)))

Glad you like the photo though and thanks for your kind and humorous comments. I won't hold your Mum responsible for the spread of the Spanish bluebells.
