Brent Geese in Flight

Brent Geese in Flight
Taken yesterday morning during a good long walk around Farlington Marshes, a nature reserve near Portsmouth, with a good friend.

Although it was sunny, it was very cold and the wind was ferocious. We mostly saw geese and ducks. We did see a Kestrel out hunting, and I tried several shots, but it was too far away and my photos were all out of focus.

The marshes were quite boggy and wet and I got home covered in mud. A good morning out though and I'm still feeling the effects :-)

I was using my 100-400mm zoom lens. I had been thinking of selling it due to finding it difficult to get good results, but I've decided to keep it for a while and keep practicing.

trester88, ROL/Photo, Jean Paul Capdeville, John FitzGerald and 15 other people have particularly liked this photo

My brother reminded me that we can always gain strength - and that if we want to keep doing as much as possible we have to keep up our exercises. So maybe it's time for you to start lifting weights that are a bit heavier than those lenses - because we want to see more of your photos taken with them! *smile*

Maybe helicopters felt closer to flying like a bird! I used to twirl a lot, dancing, on play structures etc - now I can't spin even once without getting too dizzy. I guess I just have to enjoy watching others spin now.

Thank you Jean Paul............they're very powerful birds and fly very fast. You have to be quick to catch them!

Thank you my friend. I'll be keeping the lens for the summer at least to see how I get on. The lens needs good light to keep the shutter speed up, and the iso down..!!
