Frontiers of the Roman Empire (2xPiP)

118 km long Hadrian's wall was erected 122 a.D. under emperor Hadrian. It runs roughly between Carlisle and Newcastle making use of natural features like Whin Sill and was fortified with a ditch and various forts, one of which was Vercovicium/ Housesteads Roman Fort.

I suspect that has more to do with the Norman conquest than with the Romans though;-)
slgwv club has replied to Gudrun clubOf course, a further irony is that the Normans themselves were Frenchified Vikings--
Gudrun club has replied to slgwv clubYes, we Germans are pretty bad with composite words, one of the reasons English is easier to learn than German. Borrowing a word is fine when there's no suitable word in your own language but I hate "Denglish" because usually there are perfectly good German words.
