Vlag - Flag

De kleuren van de vlag van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden zijn rood, wit en blauw is de tekst van het kortste koninklijk besluit ooit, ondertekend door koningin Wilhelmina in 1937. De NSB propageerde in die tijd dat de Nederlandse vlag oranje-wit-blauw zou zijn. Historisch gezien was dit fout, bovendien was de NSB hoe dan ook ‘fout’.
Tijdens de oorlog was het verboden om de vlag te laten zien. Afgelopen week was het 75 jaar geleden dat de vlag weer kon wapperen, als eerste in Mesch en twee dagen later in Maastricht. Het zou nog een hele tijd duren eer dat dit weer kon in het hele land.

The colours of the flag of the Kingdom of the Netherlands are red, white and blue is the text of the shortest royal decree ever, signed by queen Wilhelmina in 1937. The national-socialist movement NSB propagated that the colours ought to be orange-white-blue. Historically this is wrong, moreover, the NSB was in any way wrong. (The NSB sympathised with Nazi-Germany before the war and collaborated during the war.)
During the war it was forbidden to show the Dutch flag. This week it was 75 years ago the Dutch flag could fly freely again, first in the village of Mesch and two days later in the city of Maastricht. It would take much time before this was possible again in the whole country.
