Geringe scherptediepte - Shallow depth of field

Bij foto’s met een geringe scherptediepte gaat het vaak om het onderwerp wat in focus is. De achtergrond is onscherp en heeft meestal niks te maken met het onderwerp. In dit geval is dat anders. Op de foto staat een onbewaakte spoorwegovergang in het Amsterdamse havengebied. In de achtergrond staat het rood-witte Andreaskruis, een rood-witte paal met waarschuwingslicht en een rood-wit hek. Ook zijn de rails herkenbaar. Op de voorgrond is een deel van het verkeersbord zichtbaar welke waarschuwt voor de spoorwegovergang.

On photos taken with a shallow depth of field it is often about the subject and the subject being in focus. The background is unsharp and has nothing to do with the subject. In this case it is different. On the photo a barrierless level crossing in the western harbour area of Amsterdam. In the background there is a red-white St.Andrewscross, a red-white pole with a warning light and a red-white fence. The rails are also recognisable. In the foreground there is a part of the traffic sign visible. This sign is the warning sign for level crossings without barriers (sign J11, see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Road_signs_in_the_Netherlands )
