Het meer Paittasjärvi is een langgerekt meer dat begint bij Nikkaluokta. De lengte bedraagt ca. 18 km en de breedte is maximaal 2½ km. Aan het einde komt het water in een korte rivier die weer in een volgend meer uitkomt. The Sunday Challenge: Schrijfwaren Muurschildering van fragmenten van het dagboek van Anne Frank op de 6e Montessorischool Anne Frank aan de Niersstraat in Amsterdam. Anne Frank zat op deze school van 1934 tot aan 1941. Oorspronkelijk werd deze school opgericht in 1933 als 6e Montessorischool; in 1957, 10 jaar na publicatie van haar dagboek, werd de naam Anne Frank toegevoegd aan de naam van de school. In 1983 werd de muurschildering aangebracht, na renovaties werd één lokaal in de oorspronkelijke staat gehouden. Dat is het moeilijke in deze tijd; idealen, dromen, mooie verwachtingen komen nog niet op of ze worden door de gruwelijkste werkelijkheid getroffen en zo totaal verwoest. Het is een groot wonder dat ik niet al m’n verwachtingen op heb gegeven, want ze lijken absurd en onuitvoerbaar. Toch houd ik ze vast, ondanks alles omdat ik nog steeds aan de innerlijke goedheid van de mensen geloof. Het is me ten ene male onmogelijk alles op te bouwen op de basis van dood, ellende en verwarring, ik zie hoe de wereld langzaam steeds meer in een woestijn herschapen wordt, ik hoor de aanrollende donder steeds harder die ook ons zal doden, ik voel het leed van miljoenen mensen mee en toch als ik naar de hemel kijk, denk ik dat dit alles zich weer ten goede zal wenden, dat ook deze hardheid op zal houden, dat er weer rust en vrede in de wereldorde zal komen. 15 juli 1944. Op de foto de Nieuwe Vaart met op de achtergrond de molen ‘De Gooijer’, ingeraamd in de brugleuning. ‘s Morgens vroeg genomen. Links de foto zoals uit de camera (wel tot een 4:5 ratio uitgesneden). De tweede foto is een nabewerking in Lightroom. Enkele schuivers aangepast, een radiaal filter toegevoegd boven de bomen links want het was te licht. Rechtsonder was het te donker en daar een (negatief) grijsfilter toegevoegd. De derde foto is dezelfde maar dan gereduceerd tot vier kleuren en de laatste is gereduceerd tot twee kleuren. Changed some sliders, white balance, added a radial filter above the trees left because it was a little too light there. In the lower corner right added a (negative) neutral density filter to add some light. The third photo is the same but the number of colours reduced to four, the last has been reduced to two colours. De kleuren van de vlag van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden zijn rood, wit en blauw is de tekst van het kortste koninklijk besluit ooit, ondertekend door koningin Wilhelmina in 1937. De NSB propageerde in die tijd dat de Nederlandse vlag oranje-wit-blauw zou zijn. Historisch gezien was dit fout, bovendien was de NSB hoe dan ook ‘fout’. Tijdens de oorlog was het verboden om de vlag te laten zien. Afgelopen week was het 75 jaar geleden dat de vlag weer kon wapperen, als eerste in Mesch en twee dagen later in Maastricht. Het zou nog een hele tijd duren eer dat dit weer kon in het hele land. The national-socialist movement NSB propagated that the colours ought to be orange-white-blue. Historically this is wrong, moreover, the NSB was in any way wrong. (The NSB sympathised with Nazi-Germany before the war and collaborated during the war.) During the war it was forbidden to show the Dutch flag. This week it was 75 years ago the Dutch flag could fly freely again, first in the village of Mesch and two days later in the city of Maastricht. Laat ik het eerst zeggen: de dag dat ik deze foto nam ben ik nooit in een onveilige situatie geweest. Deze dag, 25 september, trok ik over het Kungsleden in Zweeds Lapland, van de hut Sälka naar de hut Tjäktja, een afstand van 12 km. Na 6½ km vlak terrein ga je een pas over en de laatste vier km zijn weer vlak. Daar doe je, exclusief pauzes, zo’n 3 à 3½ uur over. Deze dag werd het anders. Meestal trek in de herfst door Lapland. Dat doe ik in mijn eentje. Er is dan zeker kans op sneeuw maar ook op mooi weer. De winter viel alleen vroeg in. De afgelopen twee dagen woei het hard en sneeuwde het en vandaag was het rustig en droog. De eerste 5 km waren dan ook gemakkelijk: zowel het pad als de markeringen waren goed zichtbaar. Ook de sneeuw was niet diep. Dat kun je op de foto zien. Na 5 km werd de sneeuw een stuk dieper, markeringen werden slecht zichtbaar en het begon opnieuw te sneeuwen. Het zicht werd slecht. Tot aan het begin van de pas was het loodzwaar. Daar besloot ik terug te keren: ik had het idee dat ik op de grens van veilig en onveilig stond. Het veilige was teruggaan. Het liep echter anders: na enkele minuten hoorde ik een stem en besloot ik even te wachten. Ik stond immers langs een pad en dus kwamen er mensen langs. De stem bleek van de helft van een stel, en gezamenlijk besloten we alsnog door te gaan. Het was inmiddels gestopt met sneeuwen en het zicht werd ook weer voldoende. Uiteindelijk bereikten we na 7½ à 8 uur de hut. – – – Let me first say this: I have never been in an unsafe situation during the day I took this photo. This day, 25 september, I hiked over the Kungleden in Swedish Lapland, from the mountain hut Sälka, to the mountain hut Tjäktja, a distance of 12 km. The trail is quite easy, after 6½ km of flat terrain the trail leads over a pass and the last 4 km is flat terrain again. Excluding breaks, it’ll take you 3½ to 4 hours. This day it became much different. I am used to hike through Lapland in the autumn and I am used to do that on my own. During this time there is a chance on snow but a bigger chance on calm autumn weather: cloudy, sunny, dry and rain. However, the winter entered early. The two days before it started to freeze and it snowed and there was a stormy wind. Today it started quiet and calm. The first 5 km were easy going and both trail and markings were clearly visible. Also the snow was not deep as you can see on the photo. After 5 km the snow became deeper, markings became bad visible and it started to snow again. Also visibility became bad. Until the beginning of the pas it was extremely heavy and there I decided to go back: I had the idea that I was on the border of being safe and unsafe. The safe option was going back. It turned out different: after a few minutes I heard a voice and I decided to wait a little. I was standing along a path and there were people coming along. The voice was of one half of a couple and together we decided to continue and go over the pass. In the meantime it stopped snowing and visibility became sufficient to continue. Het water van de Skjálfandafljót stort zich via grote én kleine kanalen in de diepte. Dettifoss is IJslands grootste waterval. Met donderend geraas stort hier tegen de 200 m3 water per seconde zo'n 45 meter naar beneden.
