The Sunday Challenge: nep Een rij mooi gerestaureerde huizen uit 17e-eeuwse huizen op het Kattenburgerplein op Kattenburg. Dat is wat je zou denken als je deze gevels ziet. Echter, als je goed kijkt, zie je dat het niet klopt. De huizen staan rechtop, de ramen sluiten netjes aan en het ene pand staat net zo hoog als het pand ernaast. Het is te netjes. Het is te mooi om waar te zijn. En dat is het ook. Het aangeplempte eiland Kattenburg in Amsterdam bestond tot aan de jaren 1960 uit twee delen: een deel voor het rijk met het Marineterrein en het huidige Scheepvaartmuseum, en een deel wat zeer dicht bebouwd was met smalle, kleine huizen en nog smallere straten. De verkrotting sloeg hier hard toe. In de jaren 1960 zijn dan ook alle huizen gesloopt en vervangen door galerijflats en een studentenflat. Ook de huizen op de foto zijn toen gebouwd. That's what you would think when you see these façades. However, if you look closely, you'll see that it's not right. The houses stand completely upright, the windows fit very neatly and every house is just as high as the one next to it. It is too neat. It is too good to be true. And it is. Until the 1960s, the constructed island of Kattenburg in Amsterdam consisted of two parts: one in for the country, with the Marineterrein (Naval area) and the present Scheepvaartmuseum (Maritime museum), and one that was very densely built up with narrow, small houses and even narrower streets. The area was hit hard by dilapidation and people lived in slums. In the 1960s, all the houses were demolished and replaced by gallery flats and a student flat. The Sunday Challenge: Ander perspectief Op weg naar mijn tweede vaccinatie, geschoten vanaf de pont over het IJ. Het grote gebouw is het Pontsteigergebouw of de Pontsteiger, vernoemd naar de steiger van de pont die hier vandaan gaat. De loodsen en pakhuizen zijn inmiddels vervangen door flatgebouwen die qua ontwerp op oude pakhuizen lijken. The Sunday Challenge: sereniteit Een vrijwel lege Dam. Zelfs op zondagochtend 8 uur zijn er in normale tijden veel mensen te zien. Volgende week zondag is de laatste dag van de huidige lamlegging, erna kunnen de horeca en diverse uitgaansgelegenheden weer open, zij het op beperkte schaal. Verder ook uniek in deze tijd: er hangen regenwolken boven het koninklijk paleis en de stad, iets wat we in geen weken meer hebben gezien. – – – The Sunday Challenge: serenity A nearly empty Dam in Amsterdam. ‘In gelul kun je niet wonen’ zei vroeger Jan Schaefer, de Amsterdamse wethouder voor woningbouw. Wel, de laatste jaren is er in Amsterdam vooral geluld over woningbouw. Wel werden er veel hotels gebouwd, goed voor toerisme, goed voor congressen, goed voor werkgelegenheid, goed voor inkomen. De huisvesting is echter in het gedrang gekomen. Wachtlijsten voor sociale huur zijn eindeloos, huren, inclusief de sociale, zijn enorm gestegen, huizen zijn alleen nog te koop voor bedrijven of welgestelden die lang niet altijd erin gaan wonen… Wordt het niet eens tijd dat er wordt gebouwd voor de toenemende hoeveelheid mensen in in en rond Amsterdam wonen? However, housing has been compromised. Waiting lists for social rent are endless, rents, including the social rents, have risen tremendously, houses are only available for companies or wealthy people who are not always going to live in them... Saturday Self Challenge: Hobby of verzameling Je bekijkt nu mijn grootste verzameling: één van mijn ruim 4000 foto’s op internet. Verder vind ik het leuk om buiten sportief bezig te zijn: trekken, hardlopen, fietsen. Mijn toerfiets zie je dan ook voor de protestantse kerk in Ouderkerk a/d Amstel staan: slechts 12 km langs de Amstel vanuit het centrum van Amsterdam. Twee van de twaalf kalenderpanden die elk de naam van een maand dragen. Oorspronkelijk gebouwd als pakhuizen (1840). Hier de maanden februari en maart zoals naast de deuren is te zien. In 1996 gekraakt aangezien het leeg stond en er goedkope huisvesting nodig was. Sinds 2001 in gebruik als peperdure appartementen. De noodzaak voor zowel goedkope en betaalbare woningen is sinds 2000 alleen maar toegenomen. De kleuren van de vlag van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden zijn rood, wit en blauw is de tekst van het kortste koninklijk besluit ooit, ondertekend door koningin Wilhelmina in 1937. De NSB propageerde in die tijd dat de Nederlandse vlag oranje-wit-blauw zou zijn. Historisch gezien was dit fout, bovendien was de NSB hoe dan ook ‘fout’. Tijdens de oorlog was het verboden om de vlag te laten zien. Afgelopen week was het 75 jaar geleden dat de vlag weer kon wapperen, als eerste in Mesch en twee dagen later in Maastricht. Het zou nog een hele tijd duren eer dat dit weer kon in het hele land. ‘De sleutel ligt onder de deurmat.’ Voor toegang tot dit gebouw is een sleutel nodig en deze ligt op de gebruikelijke plek zoals de tekst in de trap aangeeft. De sleutel om de tekst in de trap te fotograferen is een goed gekozen standpunt, een beetje naar links of naar rechts en er ontstaat een willekeurig patroon van betonnen vierkanten en rechthoeken in de trap. Wanneer je de link naar Streetview volgt kun je dat voor jezelf zien. Voor de foto koos ik een flatgebouw waarvan één kant ook als een geluidswal fungeert. De muren en ramen zijn dan ook verdiept aangelegd en zijn niet zichtbaar. Per verdieping zijn er drie L-vormige betonnen lagen. Op de foto wilde ik alleen het L-vormige patroon hebben, daarom is de oorspronkelijke foto vierkant. Anders zou er rechts een raam zichtbaar zijn, en links en boven stopte het patroon geheel of gedeeltelijk. Om dezelfde reden zit er een scheve horizon in. In de bewerking heb ik een blikje weggehaald, deze stond voor een stip. Ook heb ik enkele gedeeltelijke stippen verwijderd, deze stoorden in het eindresultaat. Voor het eindresultaat heb ik de oorspronkelijke foto gespiegeld en omgekeerd en de vier foto’s aan elkaar gemonteerd. Daarna heb ik de kleuren bewerkt: negatief en/of sepia gemaakt en/of curven aangepast. Alles bij elkaar een geometrische illusie die Escher niet zou misstaan. The walls and windows were built quite far behind the edges and are not visible. Every floor has three concrete layers in an L-form. On the photo I wanted only the L-pattern visible, therefore I had not much choice in standpoints. That’s also the reason why the photo is square. Otherwise there would be a visible window right, and on left and the upper side the pattern stopped partially or complete. For the same reason there is a small Dutch tilt. In the processing I removed a can (trash!), this one in front of a dot. I removed also some partial visible dots, these were an annoyance in the end result. For the end result I mirrored and/or flipped the original photo and assembled these four photos. After that I processed the colours: negative and/or sepia and/or curves. All in all a geometric illusion which would not misfit M.C. Escher. Op de foto een klein deel van het appartementencomplex ‘Wiener & Co’ in het centrum van Amsterdam. Enkele jaren geleden opgeleverd en gebouwd op het terrein van de voormalige machinefabriek ‘Wiener & Co’, deze fabriek is in het begin van deze eeuw verhuisd. De kleuren geel van de muur en blauw van het raam zijn enigszins overdreven.
