through the old window pane

through the old window pane
In an old house that has seen very little remodelling. While most of the window panes have been replaced overtime, a few are still the old "drawn glass" panes. This shot of the building in front of one window shows the deformations produced by the old glass pane (on the right) vs the deformation-free modern glass pane on the left. I liked how the deformations gave this very commonplace building almost a Gaudi-like air :)))

True, Dominique. People generally keep at least the washing machine, the trash bins and a cupboard for odds and ends on their balcony. Add a couple of flower pots and the space is pretty much gone!

Thank you, Klaus. It's only a nondescript building but it worked well to show the deformation effect of the old glass pane.

Grazie, Annemarie. Anche a me. Comunque ci riproverò e vediamo cosa ne esce fuori :)))

AWWWWWESOME!!!! *bounces up and down*
I love this picture so much!!! You are right, it looks like a master's artwork, but the master this time is YOU! WELL SEEN. Perfectly photographed and it was so much fun to read about the picture and learn why the glass behaves differently on each side! I learned some time ago that even though it SEEMS solid, glass is just a very slow-moving liquid which you already know is called an "amorphous solid" www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-fiction-glass-liquid

I don't know if I've ever seen such a perfect example of this. You're fabulous! :)

Thank you, Janet. Your enthusiasm for photography is positively contagious. I really enjoyed a recent post you had where you commented on your "journey" as a photographer and talked about the power of inspiration. So, thank you very much, not only for the encouragement, but also for the inspiration your beautiful images and stories provide!
I did not think about the possibility that this image could have a sort of "scientific" value in offering a visual representation of the fluidity of glass until you mentioned it. Thank you for that too. I was a teacher for part of my career and the idea that my image could provide a "teaching tool" really tickles me!

Annalia S. club has replied to photosofghosts club
Buona giornata!

Thank you very much, Peter. I do try to explain what moves me to take a certain image because I really like it when other photographers share their thoughts on their own work. Learning from each other seems to me one of the most rewarding aspect of our community here on Ipernity.
Have a nice day, Peter!

You're entirely right, the old glass certainly gives a much more interesting view. A good double image.

Thank you, George. I looked up "vetro tirato" (the Italian name for glass produced with the old process of drawing (or pulling) the glass pane) and discovered that there's something called "restoration glass" that imitates the result of old glass making processes, so that old buildings (or furniture) can be fitted with glass panes that produce the same effect as the one on the right of my image. I guess others must have noticed that that wavelike effect is intriguing!
