This picture also appeared in the Biggleswade Chronicle newspaper, Friday 11 May. Part of the write up says "The Lancaster is famous for its part in the 'Dambusters' raids destroying three German dams with the famous bouncing bomb"

Hi Stoneroad,

Thank you!!!
Yes, those four Merlin engines do bring a special feeling. Especially when you imagine that quiet moonlit night in May 1943, (almost 75 years ago to the day!) when a whole wave of these suddenly descended on the Möhne dam.........

Best Wishes and a good weekend

Hi Sarah,

Thank you so much for your enthusiastic visit and wonderful words here. Steve and I had a great day out, but the interesting thing is we always come back with very different pictures, even though we are in the same place. I know Steve has already posted some great shots, better than mine in a lot of cases!

Best Wishes and a good weekend

Thank you so much Roger,

In fact it is neither, (I am not sure if the runway here is big enough for a Lancaster,) Just the result of a few flypasts. Remember of course that to drop the bouncing bomb they had to fly at exactly 60 feet (18 metres),,.. Perhaps a reincarnation of the same!

Hi Steve,

Thank you so much for your kind words here. I am pleased that you like this one, it is one of my favourites from the day. Definitely the plan of sitting by the rapeseed field worked for us.
Sorry for late reply, I've been away for the weekend.

Great capture Peter. Avro even had a plant not far from me here in Oldham (Chadderton) and so I feel rightly, a part of this Lancaster history (my father worked for them), especially more-so as the 'DamBuster' trial runs were conducted only a few miles away too, just over the hills here at Derwent Reservoir. (The fact that I also had family in Germany is another story). That apart, this is a great picture (shot sounding most inappropriate :) )
Have a good day, Herb

Thank you so much Herb, especially for the great information

I am very pleased that you like the picture. Admittedly it would have been nice to see flying over a dam somewhere, but that is another story!!!

Sorry for late reply, I've been away for the weekend.

I don't like those planes, Peter. They bring death and destruction. Always. No matter who uses them. But your picture's still good. Greetings, Frank

Thank you Doug,

I am pleased that you have enjoyed it. Pity I cannot add the noise of those four Merlin engines, but maybe there is a way..
