Real Madrid (a rather famous association football club!) are putting a retractible roof on their iconic stadium, the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu, in the middle of Madrid. I used to live nearby so took many shots of its progress. I moved away from there recently but have a backlog of shots.

The owner of the club, one Señor Florentino Perez owns one of the biggest construction companies in Spain.

This is always quite interesting...
the president has a construction company and the money comes from different banks.
I already had the fear that the city "once again" is asked to pay.
Honestly, as an Italian I know from my own countrymen how much one can be attached to soccer. It's not much different in Spain. But if my club has over 600 million euros in debt and now still a stadium for over 500 million should / will finance. In the end, it's the fans who spend a lot of money on a ticket and then see their club empty-handed. That in European soccer no one intervenes there explains the business section of our newspapers us not, but that it is a sum that never comes to zero, probably everyone knows ... but no one cares.

There have been many shady dealings in football for as long as there has been money in the game.

Well, I know far more than I am prepared to write here, Katja, as I have no wish to be sued by Sr Florentino!!!

As I mentioned to Keith, Peter, I feel bitterly resentful that meccano was just too expensive for me and my siblings. It's probably why none of us ever went near the sciences! What a great loss to the world of British industrial innovation! :o)
