I last took a shot here 6 months ago (I've moved out of the area). I thought there would have been more progress but it seems not much really. Full screen best for this I think. www.ipernity.com/doc/2247598/album/1279798

Couldn't resist showing another from the summer. I haven't been past there in a few months so don't know how work is progressing.

Estadio Santiago Bernabéu. Works.

It looks like the roof supports are in place, at least on this side.

Why this sign is in English totally beats me! I doubt if many of the construction workers speak it all that much! Pleased to see everyone wearing masks. I will take a break from these Stadium / cranes shots for a while and resume when anything more interesting happens, such as the roof finally going on.

Ongoing. H. A. N. W. E. everyone.

Estadio Santiago Bernabéu, Real Madrid. I asked my student (a senior partner at KPMG, Spain) if I could take a photo through his office window and he said yes.

From another side. I type this as news filters through that Real Madrid's greatest rivals, Barcelona have just been astonishingly flattened 8:2 by Bayern Munich in the European Cup quarter-finals. The cheers could be heard all through the Madrid evening air as every Bayern goal went in!

The top tier has already gone and strange towers are going up which will, I suppose, support the ugly new roof thing. I have a few more I will post every few days or so.

An iconic stadium and home of Real Madrid. I thought I had better take a last photo before it is turned into a giant aluminium George Foreman grilling machine. (Thanks to Keith Burton for that analogy! Better than the 'Cornish pasty' I compared it to at first!). I saw the plans a few years ago - I taught English there - so I know of what I speak ...and was horrified! OK, here it is www.youtube.com/watch?v=-pPohc_3dRA I sincerely believe the current building should be preserved as a cultural and architectural icon. But I am too late as the building work has begun and Real Madrid are playing their revived season's fan-less home match programme at their training complex at Valdebebas to the north-east of Madrid and I presume they will play there until 2023.

Taken from a class at KPMG who were then based at Torre Europa, which overlooks this stadium, and are now to be found in the Cuatro Torres.

Soon to be demolished and replaced by a hideous giant metallic Cornish pasty, Real Madrid's iconic home ground. This was also the site of the 1982 World Cup Final (Italy 3 : West Germany 1).

Real Madrid's stadium from Torre Europa, where I used to give classes (at KPMG). I also taught at Real Madrid here (not the players, although Gareth Bale could do with some English lessons) but to the marketing directors (Very Important People in the club's hierarchy!).

Apparently about to be demolished to make way for a 'state of the art' stadium (the plans make it look like a metal Cornish pasty!) I like this one and don't see why it needs to be demolished! Shot taken from the Torre Europa, across the Paseo de Castellana, where I used to give classes at KPMG. (For that matter, I also used to give classes at Real Madrid) .
