Sierra de La Pedriza - a granite wonderland

The forecast had been for a drop in the usual August temperatures so I risked it (I hadn't been out in the countryside for months due to illness): I was feeling better: I decided to go for a gentle walk; I got lost (I never get lost but that is another story); I had to retrace my steps over many fields due to bulls: the temperature didn't relent.
I eventually staggered into Manzanares el Real 3 hours after finishing the last of my water and I made rapid and dedicated inroads into the beer supply of the first bar I came across!
I then missed the last bus back to Madrid (I was sleeping and snoring magnificently under the table in the bar!).
When I sobered up I garbled a help call to my fragrant and sublimely blessed girlfriend and a lift eventually appeared.
To this day, she attributes it to sunstroke and a change in my medication, rather than stupidity and drunkenness!!

Thanks Ron. Fortunately I know these granite mountains, but perhaps not this particular area quite so well. I respect them and go walking in them as prepared as I can be. I was never all that far from a town! But, even so ... you are quite right!
