Black Bear

These are not the best photos but this is a Black Bear we saw along the Window Trail in Big Bend's Chisos Basin while hiking there. The bear was digging for something when we first saw him but soon turned his attention to us and we quickly moved on. We saw him again a little further down the dry creek bed as we hiked a long it.

Years ago I saw one from nearby in Canada.
Bonne soirée.
An encounter to see remotely
Splendid , Ron
Thanks also for the interesting information
I expect I've told this to you before of the time Steve and I were hiking a trail in Tuolumne Meadows and we had Pumpkin in her backpack cage. Lo' and behold, Steve spotted a bear a bit off the trail and when it saw him, it started moving in our direction. He had to move as fast as he could without running or enticing chase and man oh man did we hit the road in a quick hurry for quite a ways before we felt it was safe to slow down...heck, we had a lovely piece of chicken wafting perfume at the bear and what if it really wanted a feathery snack? Steve and I still start to shake just thinking about it.
It's too bad that I'm afraid of bears now...I don't want to be but even though the overwhelming majority of interactions are safe and bears usually run away from us...it's those tales that aren't so nice that I can't keep from my mind. We carry bear spray when we hike in areas that have had sightings, but it's no fail-safe. I'm glad you guys didn't have a problem with that curious beauty.
Thanks so much for your long comment--as usual, I'm so lucky!! :D--on my last series! You sure do know how to make me feel great...as you know, and just like you, it's my aim to share what it's like in a place. When you tell me I've done it, I just roll around and purr! :)
I've really been having a nice time posting pictures of our first state park stay, and today I've posted another set. There will be two more sets before I move on to our second state park--Bullard's Beach. 27 Pictures to post from there, and our last state park stay--William Tugman--has 46 pictures to post and I've got dozens still to process! :D I am so happy that I've been working hard to process the images. I have my travel laptop set up so that when it goes into screensaver mode, it begins a slideshow of all the pictures I've processed from our trips in the RV. It's so wonderful to see them and I will often just sit and stare, allowing myself to be transported back to each moment that I've captured. I love that so much. I want to get a digital photo frame but still need to figure out the right size, resolution and placement in our trailer. The pictures really are such a super way to bring us back to every place we've been! Do you have your pictures set up to do this as well? If not, I highly recommend it--talk about a rewarding experience!
Oh dear, I'm sorry to hear that you have a sore knee. Funny how knee injuries will sort of "bloom" from nothing. I had a really bad tendon pull behind my left knee which was like that. By the time it "bloomed" into a full-scale injury, I literally couldn't put any weight on it! (That happened about 2 months before our trip and healed in about 2 weeks) Steve's knee and ankle also didn't seem so bad at first...an hour or two later and he was in serious shape. Using a brace really helps and I bet yours will heal up quickly--it was a great aid to Steve's healing.
How's the heat your way? We've been having tolerable temps of mid-90's and Steve's acclimated so well that he's been out there working in it without any problem. What a crazy development--he's always had an "allergy" to heat but I guess all he needed was trailer project motivation to make the heat tolerable! :D The trick, as I'm sure you know, is to get outside before it gets really hot and get used to it as the day warms. Otherwise it's like stepping out into the depths of hades, complete with shriveling hair and skin blowing away into dust! (isn't drama great?! :D)
Wow, I hope the Colorado family members recover ok and don't get a bad case of Covid...and your neighbor as well. Eeek, it's very scary to know that it's really everywhere. Honestly, Steve and I treat everyone as if they have it. And kids are really kept away at all costs--they are super carriers and yet they rarely show signs of having it. In regards to you...man, I do worry because of your past issues, and yet, you never know. Who can say how many countless millions have been asymptomatic even when they fall into the dreaded 60+ age range? There's just no predicting how a person will react. Interestingly, we read an article that suggested that people on a low-carb diet may be protected from covid because of the lack of sugars which often encourage growth of viruses and bacteria in ailments. Also, people with weight issues are much more likely to get a bad form of Covid. So there's that...you guys are most likely not going to have issues--even though you are carb-eaters, you're healthy, active, and do everything right. We will all do our best!! *big virtual hugs*
*sigh* It's too bad that your church services must be curtailed (though at least you can participate via Skype)--this is such an important community gathering for you guys and it's got to be a bummer that it's been disrupted. That your pastor is awaiting test result is alarming...I hope all is well. Churches have had some very sad realities as of late. :(
Can't stop thinking about Neal. Thought about him so much on our trip and esp when Deanne (Steve's sister) and her handsome twin 22-yr old sons were camping with us at William Tugman. They were born severely prematurely and spent months in incubators and specialized care. One is mostly ok but not quite right in very subtle ways of his mental processing (Kieren)...the other has cerebral palsy brought on by lack of oxygen when they were born by c-section. Then he got liver cancer when he was about 10 yrs old but is 100% cured since then. Today Reese is a sharp-minded young man whose body is so uncooperative and can only get around via walker or wheelchair. Not at all the same thing as Neal but yet, our hearts cry for these grown kids who were dealt a bummer of a hand. :( I cannot fathom his sorrow, nor yours, for his forced exclusion from you guys...it's just so hard and I am so sorry at this grief brought on by Covid. :(
When are we leaving for our next trip? Why, in just a few days! We have our house-sitter raring to kick us out so he can stay and will happily be working at the same time! Gotta love telecommuting and we are all so happy for this win-win!
We have four parks lined up now and will continue to add on as the reservations open up! HOORAY!!!! We can't wait and all of our ducks are in a row to go! :)
Heh, the shower in the back of the van was partly serious, parly a joke--heh...it begs the question of where you'd get the water and how to warm it up! But for us, not having showers is the main reason we won't do hard-core tent camping...well there's the bathroom thing, the hard ground, the mess, the this and that...heh... All that aside, I cannot help but wish I could wave a wand and upgrade your (happily useful already) van to be even better and more wonderful...I find myself looking at sites like this one vanclan.co/best-camper-vans or this one gearmoose.com/van-life-best-camper-vans and dreaming of the fun it could be if we shared a trip sometime...something to think about, no? (We aren't leaving Oregon until it's really safe to do so though, border restrictions could happen any time and then what?! Heh...oh...more camping! LOL) Anyway, I guess I can't help wanting to share some of our comforts with you two.
Ok, I'm out! LOL, how did it become 12:30 already!!! EEEEEE!!! I posted pictures, added insets, wrote my post, and then I did stuff around the house, came back and blathered to you very happily for who cares how long! :) I do love sinking moments into sharing with you and reading your thoughts! How cool to have my own internet brother! :D
OH before I go...how are the rocks coming along! :)
