Texas Madrone

Texas Madrone
We have Madrones on the Pacific coast but this is a different species. This was photographed in the Chisos Basin of Big Bend National Park

Wow Ron, how cool are those?! From one fan to another, it's delightful to see another species of this gorgeous tree! How magnificent, different, and yet so similar. I just love that main picture, it's a total stunner! The Overcup Oak is wonderful and though obviously an oak, it's also quite different than Black Oak, which grows on our property...White Oak, of course, is a complete departure with its rounded leaf lobes. Makes you wonder how they could be so different and grow side by side...*scratches head*...back to your pictures...the Evergreen Sumac fascinated me and I needed to know if it was poisonous...no...though some may be susceptible to a rash if they are sensitive. I learned something too...I thought all sumacs were poisonous! NOPE! Interesting! And btw, that picture is fabulous!! GORGEOUS berries!

Your last comment on my madrone flowers had me glowing for hours! I'm overjoyed that I got a picture of your favorite tree's flowers that makes you so happy! I also love that you then posted a picture of the Texas Madrone for me to see, as you mentioned it in your comment! Thank you! What a treat. You know, I'm hard-pressed to think of a local tree that I like more than a Madrone as well. It's hard though because comparing apples and oranges isn't fair! I mean...Ponderosa Pines with their jigsaw puzzle bark are fabulous! Aspens with their amazing shape and color. And then all the maples...nope, just can't pick a favorite! :D

Sounds like you two will be heading out tomorrow for the first part of of your adventures--have fun in Lyndon! And then to Michigan and then Ireland, hooray! I'm sorry that Iceland was cancelled again...it's just such a bummer--these days I think we're all going to just have to wait it out until a reliable vaccine is available and the US and its cootie-tastic populace is deemed safe again.

I saw a beautiful pink flower growing on a stalk that looked like an orchid but was most likely a coralroot yesterday. Sadly we couldn't stop for pictures because Steve was worried about the time...but it was a lovely thing...

Ok, I'm off! SAFE AND HAPPY TRAVELS!
