The Alamo

Begun in 1744, but never finished, the Alamo was intended to be the the worship center for the Spanish Mission established near this site in 1718 (Misión San Antonio de Valero). It is famous, however, as the site of an important battle for Texas' independence from Mexico, a battle fought over 13 days in which around 200 defenders died and the mission was retaken by Mexican troops under the leadership of General Antonio López de Santa Anna. The site is now downtown San Antonio and is considered an official Texas shrine. Today is the 184th anniversary of the second to last day of the battle, fought from February 23 through March 6, 1836.
We walked to the Alamo the first day we were in San Antonio on our recent trip. We walked there in the afternoon after we had checked into our guesthouse and again in the evening when we we saw it lighted. The inset photos are also of the Alamo, of the memorial outside the Alamo and of a cannon similar to those used in the battle of the Alamo.

Sorry I haven't been around for a few days...I had hoped to post my pictures yesterday but I ran out of time. Steve and I went out to dinner at a sushi restaurant to celebrate the finishing of my bed in the RV!!! Steve took these pictures, I put them on FB but will post them here too... www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1965990970212145&set=pcb.1965993590211883&type=3&theater
Finally got my monster-sized presentation done today--heh, don't know if I'll be doing that again, it was a lot of a work! Looks great but sheesh! But I wanted to do a grand show at least once to celebrate my beautiful rocks! :)
Thanks for your marvelous posts on my Osprey nest and maple leaf image--it sure does make my day that those old photos are getting looked at by you!! :)
Re: your comments about my droplet covered leaf and that hike to the Middle Fork of the Applegate River...I took a look at that album...brought me right back there...that was an AWESOME day...and I was over the moon with my new passion of photography and I took pictures of everything I could...what a place. The little kid in me was running everywhere and pointing out all the wonderful things that so many miss. Looking out through those innocent eyes is exactly how I am able to spot those little things! :) It was pure magic! Glad you took a look--I would love to go there again. :)
I'll post on your previous set of pictures in reply to your other wonderful message!
HFF and a nice weekend.
Again you have shown a very good and a very important place of/in our time.
Thank you.
