Firehole River Swimming Area

Firehole River Swimming Area
These are the last photos from the tour of Yellowstone National Park that I'll be posting. They are, starting with the first inset, a photo of the Firehole River north of Firehole Cascades, a photo of the cascades where the river drops into Firehole Canyon, a photo of Firehole Falls, and finally this photo of the Firehole River Swimming area. After passing the cascades and near the west entrance road where we began our tour, one arrives at the entrance to Firehole Canyon Drive, a one-way road that heads south again and comes out at the cascades. Along the way are the Firehole Falls and this swimming area. We've often gone there in the summer when it is hot. There is a quiet area and further up an area where one can jump into the river and float down a short series of cascades.

Absolutely marvelous, Ron! I enjoyed reading your inset descriptions as I rolled my mouse over the insets to follow along. Such a fun presentation full of great pictures that make my heart go pitter-pat with excitement and joy at what I'm looking at! You do such a fine job of describing each place you visit. Nancy is right to admire your writing to tell about the area and your adventures. It is very nice to feel part of the scenes you describe. :) And NOPE! I can't pick a favorite. Each is wonderful by itself! I just want to GO please! :) Thanks so much for all of these great pictures of Yellowstone, it's been fantastic! :)

I saw your quick note on the dried flower I photographed on a hike--and your feelings are the same as mine: it's too bad when flower season has passed us by, but we can still appreciate the incredible beauty of what's left behind. It takes only looking at ones' definition of beauty and expanding it to include the transformation from flower to seed pod and also when all that is left is just a husk or just sepal bases and whatnot. You and Nancy see this beauty too and isn't that nice? It means that there are wonderful things to discover no matter what time of year, and because we can see these things, we are also able to share with those who never considered them before and to open their eyes! I simply LOVE doing this because it means that we've enlarged another's world and increased their level of happiness...and THAT is a nice thing to be able to do for a person, isn't it?! :) Making people happy is a foremost joy and drive in life. :) <3

YES on your disdain for too many hikers--even a dozen is too many!! I tell you, the dust on the trail, the yelling conversations...it's just AWFUL. I mean, why are these people hiking in the first place if all they do is squawk and disturb the serenity around them? The problem with MeetUps is that people's goals are often more about trying to make more friends and/or impress others around them than the hike or enjoying nature. It's really annoying. Not that it's wrong to want to make new friends and such, but turning a hike into a non-stop yelling conversation isn't what everyone on the hike wants. Ugh...

I most prefer to walk along in silence, drinking up the sounds of nature around me both animal and not...in fact, I have a game I love to play: Identify 10 unique sounds and find 10 beautiful sights. By doing this at the beginning of a hike, one is instantly immersed into the place and transformed to a part of the landscape. The overall enjoyment and appreciation goes through the roof by doing this and I wish more people knew this great trick for getting more out of a hike. I will often play this game again near the end of a hike or whenever I find myself too distracted by other thoughts and want to immerse myself again.

I hope you had a lovely espresso after your note and that Neal is having a nice day with you!

I have another note to reply to so let me get to it! :)
