Bull Bison

Photographed along the road in Hayden Valley on the southwest side of Yellowstone National Park, this bull Bison has been rolling in the dust. Hayden Valley is a wonderful place to look for wildlife and the other two photos are of a herd of Elk and of a Great Blue Heron.

Splendid exemplar, Ron!
Have a happy sunday, too!
excellent portrait photographique.. bravO
Bison are such ODD looking creatures, aren't they? They look like they're always about to tip over into a somersault! In San Francisco there is a small group of them at Golden Gate Park, and I've spent some time just staring at them from time to time. I used to ride my bike past them every Sunday when the park is closed to cars and I'd incorporate the road they're on into my ride. ( goldengatepark.com/buffalo-paddock.html ) I've always found them to be really interesting and isn't it fascinating that they easily interbreed with cattle? (though not so cool that that's diluted their pure genes in the wild)
Anyway, now to reply to your comments I left on your surly bison picture!
First, thanks for the comments on my pictures and identifying the Douglas Fir cone! I'll try to remember that as I've seen plenty of these pretty cones and didn't know what tree they came from! Oh yeah, the males and females...isn't that crazy?! I discovered that when looking into Ponderosa pines and identifying the wonderful but odd-looking clumps of colorful "things" on them. I ADORE male cones, they are just so darn pretty and so unusual looking.
Heh...I downloaded Phase 10 to play on my computer so I could see what Neal likes so much. It's fun and yes, a familiar style of game too. Enjoyable and easy to play!
Sorry to hear he broke his tooth...*sigh*...that sucks. :( Hope it wasn't too traumatic for him. When I was about 14, I was in the garage shop with my younger brother (12) and he was working on something at the vice...he was holding onto whatever it was with all of his might and it moved unexpectedly--he banged his front tooth on the vice and broke the bottom half of his tooth off. It was so sudden that we just stood there for a moment before he burst out in tears...I felt so bad that it happened. :( Of course he had a cap put on within days but it was very shocking. Poor Nealkins... :*(
Idiots in parks...they really are everywhere. They are stupid, infuriating and embarrassing. And I don't blame you for leaving with the asshat began approaching the moose. And yeah, I am very well-aware of the danger of moose (and any animal really...just corner a mama with her babies and whatever species it is, it's likely to be an ugly encounter...even deer will slice you up ginzu style with those sharp hooves!) Get a load of this idiot: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmugN8LZFoM
OMG Ron...this is all your fault. Now you just GOTTA SEE this amazing Watusi bull...the magnificent horns! (the owner wanted his friend to see just how wide the horns spread but his bull thought he was challenging him, so shook his horns and meant business! www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DwLRe4CDXw
And finally...(yeah, I have a thing for fabulous cattle!)...look at the world record Longhorn!! Oh, aren't they just AMAZING?!!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpltmG26M9Y
Sorry, but it's all your fault for getting me sidetracked! :D
Finally, the rule that your brother and his wife have of getting to yell once...heh...yeah, I think that might be worse than just leaving...the people who do such things usually have no problem turning their stupidity and newfound rage at you! Sometimes Steve can't resist commenting but he is also better at standing up for himself if the person turns their angst towards him!
Ok, that's it for me! Enjoy the cow show! D
