Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone
The three photos I've posted today were all taken along the North Rim Drive of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone. The first two photos show the canyon from Lookout Point and the last the Lower Falls from Grand View. The colors of the canyon are the result of hydrothermal activity and explain the name of the park.

Nora Caracci, Nouchetdu38, J.Garcia, and 29 other people have particularly liked this photo

We vow every time we go to Yellowstone that we won't go back because of the crowds, but we always end up going back. The place is incredible.

Breathtaking. All three images are so lovely, Ron. I showed the main picture to Steve after asking him, "Have you ever wondered why Yellowstone is called Yellowstone?" His reaction to seeing your picture was, "OH WOW!! That's a good reason!" :D I also particularly loved the waterfall inset, what a great picture!!

I'm so happy you liked my crazy metal detecting pictures. I just can't resist the challenge of turning something blah into something cool if I can possibly conjure the skill to do so! :) That it's got you questioning whether or not you should get another metal detector...SCORE!! :D *bounces around, squeeing happily* You raise a fine point though..."as if I don't have enough to do... yeah, there's that. It's a challenge all by itself to insert metal detecting into my activities, I've got to say. But it's sure a lot of fun. I just don't do it very much because I have more "important" hobbies to pursue, lol. I am glad I have it though, because it's added more dimension to my life AND it gave me the answer to my question about "knowing" a place you visit.

Heh, jammed stores, you say? Yeah, we chose to go shopping today...*shakes head*...but we managed to get what we needed without too much frustration, though the grocery store was a total and utter zoo.

I agree about being nervous about that shrapnel...you really just don't know, do you? I mean it's the actual truth. We COULD have live ammo on our property and it's NOT out of the realm of possibility. That's when I turned off signals for the low-iron items. Not interested in becoming a statistic, thank you very much! It was fun to share the picture though, crazy looking, aren't they? My younger brother smuggled bomb fragments back from Iraq as odd souvenirs, where he was working at an airport base there, and he told me his fragments look exactly the same. Crikey.

I think that when it comes to a toy like a metal detector, it's got to be looked at as something fun to play with and not expect ANYTHING. Otherwise, as you know, it just becomes a disappointment when you don't find the crazy prizes. I do hope that I find each denomination of coin and it would be so neat to find something old, but I'm not holding my breath. I've found so many neat things though, and because my bar is so low, I'll continue to be happy in my discoveries. Please though, no more lumps of melted metal, wire, screws or nails PLEASE!! Heh. :D

I always enjoy including bits about Pumpkin because I know you enjoy reading about her. She has a couple of back/front-body-mounted carriers we have for her so we can hike with her and she's safe but gets to see everything and be out there having fun with us. Such an adaptable little monster she is, and how very lucky we are. You should see her holding a julianned carrot sliver in one foot, nibbling away while she holds tight to her perch with the other, and we're trooping along down the trail. She makes comments in-between nibbles and it's just the cutest thing! :)

Your comments about Yellowstone being oppressively busy are so understandable, but you know the secret--just go up. Any trail with any elevation gain at all will disperse the hoards INSTANTLY...it's like MAGIC! No matter how busy the park is, this tactic is flawless. So, when you're thinking you never want to go back to a monsterously busy park, keep that in the back of your mind! :D We can always have the busiest park to ourselves if only we walk up any trail! :)

Zowie. That lemon-stuffed chicken sounded divine! I BET the house smelled marvelous!! I'd be interested in the recipe if you'd pass along the link.

Today we brought home a frozen duck, which we're thawing and will cook for our thanksgiving dinner. Haven't had duck for a long while so this will be a lovely treat for us! :)

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about your aunt passing away, that's such a bummer. I mean, you're right in that she had alzheimer's so it was a blessing in a way but it's still so sad, and I'm really sad for your mom. That's got to be so hard for her. And your papa hurting himself too...oh, how I bet you wish they were next door so you could care for them...that's really rough, Ron. :(

Well, I'm off for now...just WAIT till you see the resin pictures I got. They are pretty cool and I'm delighted because I wasn't sure if any of the pictures would actually turn out! HUZZAH!! Can't wait to find out which is your favorite! :) Have a lovely evening my friend!
