Because its Autumn 1

13 Nov 2022 7 3 189
A couple of shots here of our autumnal trees at their most golden yellow. So sad that they do not remain like this for much longer to please our hunger for pleasing bright colours of joy. After recent twenty four hours of wind and rain I suspect that these leave will already be gone. Enjoy in happiness.

Bamburgh and its castle

07 Sep 2022 17 27 173
Almost looking like it could have been built just a few years go, this is the village view of its high walls and towers. It is still intact and inhabited today and is a very popular tourist destination. Just at the base of the walls near the white van is the village cricket field. Not many chances of broken windows by the cricket ball in that side of the castle. Nice full screen. - Contrast this view with the sand-side PiP view. Have a great day.

Red tin roof at Oldshoremoor Bay

31 May 2014 25 19 204
Looking towards Oldshoremoor Bay in the Scottish Highlands North West coast. A reminder of our trip to the far north of Scotland in 2014. These distinctive old farm buildings dotted the landscape around here. One from my Panoramio collection and a reminder too of just how many of our holidays were in grey wet weather. Enjoy the day. HBM - Seats over Strinesdale reservoir.

13 Nov 2022 20 40 212
On one of our local walks we pass these two benches regularly but seldom do I see it with such light and colour. This being a much later walk in the day to our usual and also, as can be seen, a very golden autumn day in somewhat rare clear bright sky. In all our times walking here I can’t remember both these seats ever being occupied at once. Perhaps now we will though, as many trees obscuring the view from here have been cleared to allow the view again. Have a great day.

Class 195 Civity

27 Sep 2022 22 21 172
Having just crossed the Arnside viaduct and approaching the station (pips), this most modern train looks like it is tilting but as far as know, this is not one of those tilting trains. This is a Diesel Multiple Unit built by CAF in Spain, they have a top speed of 100mph. Ironically, we here in Britain were once world leaders in train manufacturing.

Seahouses: Gunpowder house

06 Sep 2022 14 9 174
We are at Seahouses on the Northumbrian coast looking just south of the main harbour, at a most peculiar building. It is in fact a building built to store gunpowder for the construction of the pier and harbour in 1886. It was placed out here on the rocks away from the village in case of any accidental explosions. For me, on this rather misty day the colours all harmonise almost as one. Photographically I would normally rather not have left the house in the middle but you might notice the figure on the right balancing things out nicely and in fact along with the red marker it makes for a nice triangle. Essential full screen. Enjoy your day.

The dog walk

04 Nov 2022 39 65 280
As a sudden early morning mist greets me, it’s time to run out with the camera again. Here we are looking up a path I normally only take coming down as it is part of a round walk. This curved path and fence has been a favourite photo subject of mine for many years now and I am pleased that its beauty has not yet decayed. Best full screen. Enjoy the weekend. Herb

The Langdale Pikes

23 Feb 2016 28 18 261
A golden oldie should be seen now and again and so here is one of my 2016 captures previously in Panoramio. Our English Lake District shown at its most dramatic here from near Elterwater. Of course for me the late sun hitting the rocks complimented by snow on the distant peak of the distant peak is pure magic. We see here: Harrison Stickle with the snow then Loft Crag, Pavey Ark and Pike o’ Stickle Have a great day.

River in the woods

18 Oct 2022 25 25 225
An early autumn walk taken at Hardcastle Craggs always reaps rewards. Experience the soft light through the trees here with me and watch the fallen golden leaves float down the river. In a few more weeks this would be even better with true red and golds from front to back but for now we have what we have so enjoy. Nice full screen

Bambugh’s Arthurian castle

07 Sep 2022 23 23 214
A traditional view of this famous Northumbrian castle from the north seaward side. One can easily imagine knights practicing their swordsmanship in the high grounds or even jousting here on the sands. With a little more imagination, a dragon might be seen circling above too. Described In medieval text as Lancelot’s Joyeus Garde Castle in the Arthurian tradition. Once the ancient capital of the powerful kingdom of Northumbria. There has been some kind of defensive structure at Bamburgh since at least the 6th century after constant Viking invasions. The massive Norman keep was built in 1095 and since then was used as a prison to members of the Scottish aristocracy. During the Wars of the Roses, Bamburgh was a Lancastrian stronghold that came under fierce attack. By the early 1600s, Bamburgh was ruinous and in private hands, those of the local Forster family. It later became a hospital and a school, before being bought by the wealthy local industrialist, Lord Armstrong, who began the work of restoration but died before it was completed. Still owned today by the Armstrong family, Bamburgh Castle is open to the public. (https://www.historic-uk.com/DestinationsUK/Bamburgh-Castle/) Enjoy full screen

A walk on the misty side.

04 Nov 2022 21 20 218
Autumn can be a great time for lovers of the countryside and it’s weather. One day rain, the other clear and then on another, all is silently enveloped by thick mist. Mist by itself is rarely very photogenic but add a bit of sun and things liven up as shown here. Enjoy full screen

Fence web!

24 Jun 2022 31 51 194
The left side almost resembling a big spiders web but it presents no problem to us as we trek along the beach pebbles here at the western end of Balintoy. There were a lot of sheep around here so I presume this was to try to limit their straying. Enjoy the weekend. Herb

Gleanariff - Queen of the Glens.

23 Jun 2022 17 13 223
Another day of exploring Northern Ireland brings us to this glen (valley). It is one of the nine Antrim Glens that cover over 1000 hectares of planted woodland, lakes and rivers. You can see from this view that we are not far away from the coast but quite a different feel here. A rocky gorge is the highlight of this trip with some beautiful waterfalls and timber walkways surrounded by mosses, liverworts and ferns. A sample of one of the waterfalls in the PiP. Enjoy full screen Have a good day.

A wall for Autumn

26 Oct 2022 22 27 233
An old walk back to Digley Reservoir near Holmfirth Yorkshire takes us alongside this wall. The attractive thing here is the berries on this Rowan tree. The other trees are just turning yellow and gold before the winds come, and before we know it they will be all bare. Have a great day. Herb

Yeomen Hey reservoir from the dam.

10 Oct 2022 14 14 220
A local walk with my Ipernity friend Toz in this interesting light allows me to capture a scene of this year’s drought conditions before our autumn rains started to fill this up again. Our walk took us along the left lane you see here rising to the next reservoir up. A good day was had by all. Have a good day.

HBM - When the fret comes in.

06 Sep 2022 21 19 280
Here on the coast of Northumbria just north of Seahouses is one of Britain’s finest and biggest beaches. As it is on the north east then a common phenomenon is this sea-mist (fret) that can come and go in moments. We can see many beach strollers and also some surfers here as well as the very imposing Bamburgh castle in the far background. The benches? - well they are for the many coastal walkers who just like to enjoy the view and take in the sun or perhaps enjoy their picnics. The Pip shows another view taken on a different day. Nice full screen HBM, enjoy the day.

Common Gorse, detail

26 Oct 2022 15 16 177
A close up of part of a large Gorse shrub (Ulex europaeus) spine, seen on a local walk. These always look good with their bright sunny yellow petals. Since winter is approaching this plant is now finishing and the petals are turning brown making for nice blend of colours here along with the greens. Enjoy full screen Have a good day.

Balintoy in the calm

24 Jun 2022 13 11 192
After many shots of this harbour village area in stormy sea’s, here we see a much calmer scene. In the distance we see some cormorants drying their wings. I am not sure what this white rock was but it one of many types around here. Enjoy the day.
