A new Victorian view

02 Dec 2022 17 11 177
A rare visit to the city gives us a view from Victoria Railway station in Manchester showing us part of the new tramway concourse. Just two things of note to be seen here – one is a lone Manchester Bee, one of a few that are still dotted around the city centre and the other is the tram itself. For those that are interested it’s the Metrolink No. 3121 on its way to Manchester Airport via Market Street. Some interesting line connectivity here! Remember we drive on the left here so this tram is heading away from the station having taken the shortest route but the return tram would do a big swing out on a longer detour. I wonder why they designed it like that ? Nice full screen, enjoy the day. See next photo for more bees!

A view from Essex

30 Jul 2014 16 14 296
Here is a photo from 2014, taken near the village of Bradwell-on-Sea. The star of the show undoubtedly is ‘The Chapel of St Peter-on-the-Wall’. It is a Christian church dating from the years 660-662 and among the oldest largely intact churches in England. It is in regular use by the nearby Othona Community, in addition to Church of England services. It is a Grade I listed building. See PiP Nice full screen, enjoy the day.

Beach Canter

30 Jul 2016 24 31 223
Back in the summer of 2016 we explored the Lincolnshire coast area. Here we are just to the east of the village of Alford and north of Skegness. A grey day, as it is often here and like much of this coast now, dotted with windfarms. Looks like a good place to go for a canter on the soft sand that horses seem to love. Nice full screen, enjoy the day.

Ye olde fence and gate

23 Jun 2022 24 42 206
An old dwelling on a very quiet lane in County Antrim brings me to see this old gate. A long time since it was used no doubt and depicting a time when wrought-iron work was common place. Like the building next to it –long since abandoned. Notice the sheep enjoying the late afternoon sun. Enjoy full screen Have a good weekend.

The lovely Scottish Highlands

03 Jun 2014 22 23 232
Another golden oldie here from June 2014. We have had a great day out exploring and walking around this north west corner of Scotland, having explored the Oldshoremore and Sandwood Bay area and so we are on our way back to our holiday caravan site at Durness. As we drive the 35km + road back we pass numerous glens and highland scenes, this is but only one. I believe we are driving through Strath Dionard and it is the River Dionard that we see here. Enjoy full screen.

Bamburgh Lighthouse

07 Sep 2022 20 20 191
Set just north of Bambugh here is an unusual lighthouse. Established in 1910 and never manned. It is the most northerly land-based lighthouse in England. It was discontinued in 1975 but is still monitored and controlled by Trinity House in Harwich. We are only 20 miles from the Scotland border here. This view from the north to the south shows the Farne Islands with its own lighthouse too. See PiP for closer look with bigger wall, from the south. Nice full screen, enjoy the day.

The road to Park Bridge

28 Nov 2022 11 11 146
A deserted road, once full of vehicles and people, now abandoned makes a nice dry walk for the people of Odham. The road just a 2.4km long goes from near Alexandra Park to the hamlet of Park Bridge. Enjoy the tree shadows from the strong light . Have a good day.

HBM - Resting in the golds

13 Nov 2022 21 20 257
Another local shot showing one of the many benches along here. As can be seen, a popular family walking path and a place to rest or contemplate the day too. Have a good one. Herb

Canal view at Greenfield

08 Oct 2022 9 13 180
A summer view from the Huddersfield canal at Friezland in the village of Greenfield towards Pots & Pans and Alderman’s Hill. The cygnets make a nice foreground subject but usually there is the odd canal barge moored around here too. Enjoy full size.

Lake Lugano

18 Sep 2013 29 27 237
Its nice sometimes to be reminded of past pleasant trips. Here we are at Lake Lugano in Switzerland, September 2013 during our Italian Lakes holiday. This high fountain in the lake itself is at the town of Lugano. It is one of many beautiful fountains on this lake. The south west of the lake forms the border with Italy. Enjoy

To the light

13 Nov 2022 46 59 362
A walk in the countryside is always good for the soul so here we are in our local area enjoying fresh air and light whilst keeping healthy. A yellowish scene as Autumn is well established here. The fences are in fact the guard railings on a small bridge over the local stream. Enjoy the weekend.

Arnside

27 Sep 2022 16 13 150
Here we see most of the village of Arnside in Cumbria. On the right side is part of a short promenade along the large River Kent estuary that runs into Morecambe Bay. Notice the Ukrainian Flag being proudly flown above the jetty as we hear today of yet more Russian missiles attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure plunging their country into cold and darkness! Enjoy the day in warmth and safety but think of our neighbours in the Ukraine.

Rainbow to Holme

26 Oct 2022 21 15 232
Seen on the lane to the village of Holme near Holmfirth in Yorkshire. Showing a collection of dry stone walls. Have a great day

Northumbrian Seascape

06 Sep 2022 17 20 200
As the sea-fret envelopes the seashore we have here almost a painting effect by the old masters. This taken just north of the Northumbrian village of Seahouses. Enjoy full screen.

HBM - The beautiful Antrim coast

20 Jun 2022 22 36 225
For a part of the world known mostly for its history of strife and troubles, it sure is beautiful. Here we see the view just south of the ‘Giants Causeway’ looking back towards Portrush in the far distance. Have a great day.

The ancient Whitby Abbey

26 Apr 2014 47 46 455
Reminded by our Ipernity friend Rosalyn Hilborne and her excellent photos of Whitby and its Abbey, I revisited my old Panoramio photos of the same subject. Here is one taken in 2014 set in an atmospheric monochrome in an attempt to add the feeling of age and perhaps conjure up images relating to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The Abbey was a 7th-century Christian monastery that later became a Benedictine abbey. The abbey church was situated overlooking the North Sea on the East Cliff above Whitby in North Yorkshire. HFF- Group walk

26 Oct 2022 34 49 234
Seen on the perimeter of Digley Reservoir near Holmfirth. The low level of water in this reservoir testifies to our dry summer but now, a few weeks later, I imagine they will have a lot more water in after days of heavy rain. Best full screen. Enjoy the weekend. Herb

Because it’s Autumn 2!

13 Nov 2022 16 10 211
A couple of shots here of our autumnal trees at their most golden yellow. So sad that they do not remain like this for much longer to please our hunger for pleasing bright colours of joy. After recent twenty four hours of wind and rain I suspect that these leave will already be gone. Enjoy in happiness at full screen.
