Class 195 Civity

Class 195 Civity
Having just crossed the Arnside viaduct and approaching the station (pips), this most modern train looks like it is tilting but as far as know, this is not one of those tilting trains.

This is a Diesel Multiple Unit built by CAF in Spain, they have a top speed of 100mph. Ironically, we here in Britain were once world leaders in train manufacturing.

Thanks Gordon. As I very rarely travel on trains I, like you have to admire them from outside. I believe that these are quite comfortable with big picture windows.

I suppose the long-suffering passengers in Northern England should be grateful for these 195s, as they replaced the despised 146 'Pacers'. This one is doing a fine impression of a Class 390 'Pendolino'.

Totley Tunnel was a good place to experience the joy of traveling on a Pacer

Nice to see you Tractacus. I was hoping you would pop by and fill us in with some better train facts. I could not think of the name of the tilting train: the Class 390 Pendolino. I woder if what we see here is simply an illusion caused by my p.o.v or if it really does tilt a little when turning.

Not tilting. Methinks it's a combination of the telephoto zoom and track camber.

I agree. Totley Tunnel always seems to be more bumpy than most - very noticeable in a Pacer..

The train looks pretty good against the sky Herb..............and it looks like it travels through some lovely countryside.

The first PiP is really beautiful. I like the two boats for foreground interest, and the viaduct looks impressive against the distant peaks. The station in the second PiP looks really charming.

It really does travel through some of the best countryside in Britain along the far NW coast of England/ Very glad you liked the pips.

Wonderful series! I love trains and railway stations, I used to travel by train ever since I was a little kid, so that may be the reason why!
Fine capture, Herb!
