-------------------------------------------
The museum, founded in 1920 and located in the former Grande boucherie (large butcher's shop), aims to evoke the urban, political, economic and social history of Strasbourg, thanks to a collection of paintings, engravings and objects ranging from corporate masterpieces to objects that once belonged to illustrious figures or ordinary citizens (clothing, furniture, etc.).
The presentation of the collections is structured around three themes: the free city of the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation (1262-1681), the royal city (1681-1789) and the birth of the metropolis (19th and 20th centuries).
PONT DU CORBEAU
This is the old bridge over the River Ill from which people condemned to death (such as infanticides, parricides) were thrown: they were put into sewn sacks and left in the water until death. For less serious crimes, the condemned were placed in cages and bathed where the sewage from the Great Butcher's Shop, a short distance from the Bridge, came in.

A pity the time is always short, Nick. Only half day to visit the town, only the historic centre with a little train.
