tiabunna's photos
Vale, Andy.
In memory of IP friend Andy Rodker, who posted many beautiful images of the Cornwall coastline and whose images and advice led to my late wife and I visiting the area. With deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Tollgate Islands
Captain Cook named the Tollgate Islands when he mapped Australia's east coast in 1770. This is the view from my local beach, where they do indeed look like the gateway to a wider world. I thought this an appropriate image for World Photography Day 2023. It also places empasis on the oceans - now warming alarmingly worldwide. We, as photographers, can assist by recording changes to our global environment.
The PiP shows my first camera, a Model 2A Box Brownie of about 1932 - it was very much a family "hand-me-down" when it passed to me. With it is my first SLR, a Minolta SR1 of 1964.
Grid coming
Not many fence photos from my outback trip - lots of country between fences! This was taken on the approach to a fence with a cattle grid, which needs just a little care when driving.
Wishing everyone a Happy Fence Friday and a pleasant weekend to follow.
'Big Red' from above
Suggest viewing large. "Big Red" is the name given to this sand dune, reputedly the largest in the Simpson Desert and the first of an estimated 1140 if crossing the desert. It rises some 40 metres above the surrounding plains and is just 35km from Birdsville. Driving 4WDs up and down its steep sandy slopes has become a "must do" for off-road enthusiasts. This image from the east, the PiPs show it across the top and from the west. These aerial views tend to give a flattened impression of it.
Desert rainbows
Seeing this double rainbow was probably the ultimate highlight for me of the dawn aircraft trip over the Simpson Desert. Second image in the PiP taken a few minutes later, after a slight change of course. Note also cloud shadows on the desert.
One for wave watchers
Taken on a lovely winter's day - a very pleasant spot to watch what's on or in the water.
Happy bench Monday and have a great week, everyone.

Feather
For Macro Mondays group 14/8/2023, topic #322. "Found in the street" . This little feather was indeed found in the street, but for the sake of (my) safety I moved it to the footpath while taking this image. Happy Macro Monday, everyone.
Simpson desert dunes
This image, with early morning light emphasising contours, gives a good impression of the parallel sand dunes of the Simpson Desert. Also shadows of clouds and a light sprinkle of rain beyond the aircraft wingtip. There's also a 4WD track visible (may need to enlarge to view).

Cattle yards from above
Still on the light aircraft trip across the Channel Country and the edge of the Simpson Desert, we flew over these cattle yards tucked behind the sand dune, with the floodwaters coming down Eyre Creek spreading to either side. I'd suggest viewing large. The first PiP, taken slightly earlier, shows the shrubs in the Channel Country, with water inundation and trees throwing longer shadows. The second PiP, taken soon after passing the cattle yards, shows the Simpson Desert stretching to the west.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Fence Friday and a great weekend to follow.
