Black Kites
Found across most of Australia, it was fairly common while inland to see circling flocks of Black Kites, such as this. They do this near food sources, such as carrion. Adult Black Kites have a wingspan of about 43 cm.

Whistling Kite
This is a Whistling Kite, a species of raptor to be found across Australia. This one kindly flew by several times, allowing me to get these images, which show their distinctive wing markings.

Banksia flower head
This is the flower head from a Banksia integrifolia or Coastal Banksia, which formed the basis for my "what is it" macro image (PiP). These are about 10cm long and are found on trees which grow to about 25M . They are native to the southeast coast of Australia and I think the flowers are known in some places as "bottlebrush".

What is it?
For Macro Mondays group 17/7/2023, topic #318. "What is it?"
Betoota benches
Betoota is a ghost town in western Queensland, with a permanent population of nil, but it does have a (restored) pub and a racetrack. The satirical online newspaper, the "Betoota Advocate" claims to originate here as "Australia's oldest newspaper". See also PiPs.
Betoota is now a "must visit" for travellers and not only is the pub busy, but it has benches outside for those wishing to be in the sunshine. With that thought, I'll wish everyone a very Happy Bench Monday and a good week to follow.

Road Train #1
When you're in the 'outback' of Australia, you almost certainly will encounter 'Road Trains'. This was one of the first I captured with the camera, I'll have even larger ones later. The important point is that the roads in remote areas are narrow and these have the right of way - they use the whole road and other vehicles must pull off the side as they pass. View large for the best impression.
Loo with view
At Deon's Lookout (see earlier image in PiP). There are fences at the door with a great view of the area - best viewed large.
Wishing everyone a very Happy Fence Friday and a good weekend.
Crossing Cooper's Creek
Cooper's Creek almost defines "The Outback", ie far western Queensland. See also PiPs.
Rock Isotome
These flowers are native to the dryer rocky areas of inland Australia, such as hillsides and gorges. I was very pleased to find them on the slopes of Baldy Top (see previous images).
