Winter is here
The leaves on the little potted Japanese Maple have almost finished. Winter's here!
Cape Brett Lighthouse
This lighthouse is automated, as is now standard. It is not open to the public, though the former lightkeeper's house is being restored, I gather for holiday rentals. I also found the former landing and resupply jetty interesting (see PiP).
Low tide
Low tide at Paihia in the Bay of islands, near the jetty for the tourist boats.
Wishing everyone a Happy Fence Friday, to be followed by a great weekend.
Motuarohia Island
I'm reasonably confident that this is Motuarohia Island (Maori) aka Roberton Island, considered to be one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand's Bay of Islands. Unfortunately our tour didn't allow time for us to land there.
Hole in the Rock
On a good day the tourist boats go through the "hole" (see also PiP). The weather wasn't good enough when we visited, though we went close. More details of this here.
Happy Wednesday Wall, everyone.
Russell
The township of Russell was the first European settlement in New Zealand, developing from the Maori settlement of Kororareka. In the 1830s the area attracted whalers, sealers, merchants and timber-getters and became known as the "Hell Hole of the Pacific" with no European laws and Maori law seldom enforced within the town's area. Things settled down when the "Colony of New Zealand" was proclaimed in 1841.

Cable clutter
For Macro Mondays weekly project No 365: "Cable clutter" . Somehow blue rope also crept into the image! :-)
Bayside benches
Wavy benches in the town of Paihia, the entry to the Bay of Islands in New Zealand. I was rather taken, too, by the illustrated electricity box alongside.
Happy Bench Monday and have a good week, everyone.
Out to sea
Off on the catamaran (previous image) to visit the Bay of Islands in New Zealand. A cold front moving through with some showers added interest to the skies.
