So glad you enjoyed the post, Carol. Thanks so much. There are so many beautiful types of Japanese Maples.

A very, very, very beautiful shot. Love the effect of the shallow depth-of-field. Wish I could take shots like this! Faved absolutely. A spot-on match for 'Sight and Sound'. Not heard this one before. Brilliant! I have a fair amount of their stuff but it looks like I need to check out what's missing from my collection :-) Thanks very much for posting, Karen.

I bet you could, Roger. I just used my 100-300mm lens and zoomed in at f6 (could have been f5 too, actually f4 with this lens) I like playing around like that cause you never know exactly what you can get. It's fun.

Yeah, these guys still sound so good. Thanks a lot! :)

Not that I know much about these things, but basically the smaller that f-stop number is the more likely you're going to get the effect you're after Roger.

If your camera will let you, try shooting these shots in Aperture Priority mode. That way if you go for the smallest number available, which opens up the lens to let as much light flood in as possible, the camera will alter the other aspects of the exposure for you ... most likely it'll crank up the shutter speed. Hope that helps somewhat? :)

Yes, you are so right, Paul, that the smaller f stop will create some nice bokeh. I just notice that with my zoom here, the bokeh has a little different look than if I use my 60mm f.2.8 This zoom lens I used here is f4 (I mistakenly said f5 to Roger.)
