Robberfly

I never knew these things existed until a couple of days ago when I saw one carting off and devouring a bumblebee.

Now I find myself examining closely the things I think first are weird bees.

This one was sitting next to me at the in-laws' house while we lounged about enjoying their new little deck at the bottom of their garden.

The robberfly was expecting some juicy bugs to be around us, I suppose.
