Along the banks of the Sarthe, stands this small 15th-century chapel, on the site where Saint Ceneri originally settled. The chapel contains a statue of the saint which is said to have miraculous powers.: young women wishing to get married quickly must bring a needle to stick in the saint's dress - if it stays in place, they get married within the year. Similarly, women wishing to become pregnant can lie down on the large stone on the floor of the chapel, which was the stone on which the saint slept, and can expect to become pregnant quickly... PETITE CHAPELLE DANS LA PRAIRIE. Le long de la Sarthe, se trouve cette petite chapelle du XVe siècle, à l'endroit où Saint-Ceneri s'est installé à l'origine. La chapelle contient une statue du saint à qui l'on prête des pouvoirs miraculeux : les jeunes femmes qui souhaitent se marier rapidement doivent apporter une aiguille pour la planter dans la robe du saint - si elle reste en place, elles se marient dans l'année... KLEINE KAPELLE AUF DER WIESE. Entlang des Flusses Sarthe steht diese kleine Kapelle aus dem 15. Jh. an der Stelle, an der sich ursprünglich der Heilige Ceneri niedergelassen hatte. Die Kapelle enthält eine Statue des Heiligen, der wundersame Kräfte zugeschrieben werden : junge Frauen, die schnell heiraten wollen, müssen eine Nadel mitbringen, um sie in das Gewand des Heiligen zu stechen - wenn sie dort stecken bleibt, heiraten sie innerhalb eines Jahres...

The Romanesque church of Saint Cénéri with its clock tower arches was built in the 11th century on a rocky promontory above the Sarthe. The frescoes inside date from the 12th and 14th centuries. In part, they are in such good condition because they were covered in plaster in 1650, only to be rediscovered 200 years later! DERRIÈRE LE MUR ET LA CLÔTURE.L'église romane de Saint Cénéri avec ses arches de la tour de l'horloge est construite au XIe siècle sur un promontoire rocheux au-dessus de la Sarthe. Les fresques à l'intérieur datent des XIIe et XIVe siècles. En partie, elles sont en si bon état parce qu'elles ont été recouvertes de plâtre en 1650 pour être redécouvertes 200 ans plus tard ! HINTER MAUER UND ZAUN. Die romanische Kirche Saint Cénéri mit den Bögen des Uhrenturms wurde im 11. Jahrhundert auf einem Felsvorsprung über dem Fluss Sarthe errichtet. Die Fresken im Inneren stammen aus dem 12. und 14. Jahrhundert. Teilweise sind sie nur deshalb so gut erhalten, weil sie 1650 verputzt wurden, um 200 Jahre später wiederentdeckt zu werden!

Posé dans une boucle de la Sarthe qu'enjambe un petit pont de pierre, Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei "enroule" ses anciennes maisons de bourg autour de l'église romane du XIe s. aux fresques exceptionnelles. Sur l'autre rive de la Sarthe, face à la charmante chapelle du XVe s., une source miraculeuse, née de la prière de Saint-Céneri, aurait le pouvoir de guérir certaines maladies des yeux... AS IF TIME HAD STOOD STILL... Placed in a loop of the Sarthe spanned by a small stone bridge, Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei "wraps" its old town houses around the 11th C. On the other bank of the Sarthe, opposite the charming 15th century chapel, a miraculous spring, born from the prayer of Saint-Céneri, would have the power to cure certain eye diseases ... ALS WÄRE DIE ZEIT STEHEN GEBLIEBEN... Saint-Céneri-le-Gérei liegt in einer Schleife der Sarthe, die von einer kleinen Steinbrücke überspannt wird. Die alten Bürgerhäuser sind um die romanische Kirche gebaut (11. Jh., mit aussergewöhnlichen Fresken). Am anderen Ufer der Sarthe, gegenüber der bezaubernden Kapelle aus dem 15. Jh., befindet sich die "wundersame Quelle". Sie soll aus dem Gebet von Saint-Céneri entstanden sein und die Kraft haben, bestimmte Augenkrankheiten zu heilen...

Built on a former sarcophagus in the 11th C., the church is in a simple roman style and built in sandstone and granite on a rocky promontory. The main decorative element being the arches in the clocktower, and contains some very high quality frescoes painted in the 12th and 14th C. In part, the frescoes are in such good condition because they were plastered over in the 17th C. only to be redicovered 200 years later!!

In a vast grassland, further along the river Sarthe there is this small 15th C. chapel on the site where Saint-Ceneri originally settled. The chapel contains a statue of the Saint to which various miracles have been attributed: young ladies hoping to get married soon should bring a needle with them to the chapel to stick in the robe of the saint - if it stays in place you will be married within a year. Equally, ladies wanting to get pregnant should lie on the large stone in the chapel floor, which was the stone on which the saint slept, and can expect to fall pregnant shortly.
