CHAUSEY IS ANYTHING BUT A COMMONPLACE. It's the largest archipelago in Europe and, according to local tradition, it's made up of 365 islets at low tide and 52 at high tide! At low tide, the intensity of the phenomenon can best be measured with the islets that form the thousands of granite rocks. On the "Grand'Île", the only inhabited island (30 inhabitants), there are no cars or bicycles, and roads are unknown: it's another world. The archipelago is also an ornithological reserve, famous for its colonies of seabirds.
