Despite its name (= new bridge), the Pont Neuf is the oldest existing bridge in Paris. It was built at the end of the 16th C. and owes its name to the novelty, which at that time was a bridge with no houses and pavements that protected pedestrians from mud and horses. It is also the first stone bridge in Paris to completely cross the Seine.

When I was last there, in Feb 2018, the river was in flood, and the path next to the river (where the busker is playing) was completely submerged.. www.ipernity.com/doc/2247998/46245820
