Once it was a proud fortress... - H.A.N.W.E.

These ruins commemorate an important event in Breton history: François II, Duke of Brittany, was affected by the conquest of Saint-Aubin and formed an army of 11000 men to retake the place, but in 1488 the French troops defeated their opponents. This event announces the end of the independence of Brittany, which will definitely come with the marriage of Anne of Brittany and Charles VIII. After the castle lost its defensive interests, it was to be destroyed, with the exception of the eastern wall of the keep in front of victorious France! (see PiP)


JADIS CE FUT UNE FIERE FORTERESSE... Les ruines du château de Saint-Aubin-du-Cormier rappellent un événement important de l’histoire bretonne : affecté par la prise de Saint-Aubin, François II, Duc de Bretagne, constitue une armée de 11000 hommes pour reprendre les lieux, mais en 1488, les troupes françaises terrassent leurs adversaires. Cet événement annonce la fin de l’indépendance de la Bretagne qui se concrétisera avec le mariage d’Anne de Bretagne et Charles VIII. Ayant perdu son intérêt défensif, le château allait être détruit, excepté la face est du donjon, tournée vers la France vainqueur! (Voir PiP)

Diese Ruinen erinnern an ein wichtiges Ereignis in der bretonischen Geschichte : sehr betroffen von der Eroberung von Saint Aubin, François II., Herzog der Bretagne, bildete eine Armee von 11000 Mann, um den Ort zurückzuerobern, doch 1488 besiegten französische Truppen ihre Gegner. Dieses Ereignis kündigt das Ende der Unabhängigkeit der Bretagne an, die mit der Hochzeit von Anne von Bretagne und Karl VIII. eintreten wird. Nachdem die Burg ihr Verteidigungsinteresse verloren hatte, sollte sie zerstört werden, mit Ausnahme der Ostwand des Bergfrieds gegenüber dem siegreichen Frankreich ! (siehe PiP)
