The July Column (built between 1835 and 1840) stands in the center of the "Place de la Bastille" in Paris, commemorating the Revolution of 1830.
47 m high, it contains an interior spiral staircase. Over the Corinthian capital is a gallery, surmounted with a gilded globe, on which stands a colossal gilded figure, Auguste Dumont's "Génie de la Liberté" (Spirit of Freedom). Perched on one foot in the manner of Giambologna's Mercury, the star-crowned nude brandishes the torch of civilisation and the remains of his broken chains.

On Monday evening April 15, 2019, a major fire broke out while work was being carried out on the building. The sinister destroyed the roof of the cathedral, as well as the framework of the 13thC and the spire (96 m high). The same day, the President of the Republic announces that the cathedral will be rebuilt.

Afterword to this photo: back then, in 2017, the cathedral was still in all its splendor... Today it's a view which is over gone for ever!

"Has been" (the crowd on the ship and Notre-Dame unharmed) ... Have a nice Sunday.

Despite its name (= new bridge), the Pont Neuf is the oldest existing bridge in Paris. It was built at the end of the 16th C. and owes its name to the novelty, which at that time was a bridge with no houses and pavements that protected pedestrians from mud and horses. It is also the first stone bridge in Paris to completely cross the Seine.
