A wonderful machine at one time this would have been the very latest technology, does the mill still work or just the wheel ? the ones I have seen here have had a mill pond so the flow of water was more constant

Thanks Peter. No, the mill doesn't work any longer, only the wheel is turning, actuated by the flow of the river.

Danke Karsten, ja, das finde ich auch. Obwohl es hier nur das Mühlrad ist (die alte Mühle ist nicht mehr in Betrieb) - jedenfalls ist es eine interessante Kuriosität in der Stadtmitte.

Oh, das liegt ja fast auf dem Weg Richtung Côtes-d’Armor. Vielleicht mache ich nächsten Mai dort einen Stop.

Das lohnt sich sehr, Ur@nos, Bayeux hat eine großartige Kathedrale, und vor allem befindet sich im "Centre Guillaume le Conquérant" der weltberühmte Teppich von Bayeux.

Dein Foto ist eine schöne Erinnerung an eine wundervolle Studienreise in die Normandie, Christa!

Übrigens, "22" ist sehenswert, aber es gibt noch viele interessante Orte vorher (und nachher)....

Danke Uli. Stimmt, all das sind interssante Sehenswürdigkeiten. Was mir besonders gefällt ist das historische Zentrum mit seinen alten Gassen und Fachwerkhäusern. Da es ja vom Krieg verschont wurde, hat Bayeux sich ein reiches architektonisches Erbe bewahrt.

Nein, die Mühle ist nicht mehr in Betrieb. Das Rad dreht sich eigentlich nur noch, um die Besucher und Touristen zu erfreuen, ein interessanter Ort mitten in der Stadt.
