Viel Glück, Kleiner! Good luck, baby!

Bei einer Wanderung lief uns in der Abenddämmerung dieser kleine Igel über den Weg. Er war ca. 14-15 cm lang und offensichtlich auf Nahrungssuche (Würmer, Schnecken, Insekten). Man rechnet, dass ein Igel Anfang November, also vor Beginn seines Winterschlafs etwa 500 g Körpergewicht haben muss. Das kleine Kerlchen im Bild hat mit Sicherheit dieses Gewicht noch nicht erreicht. Ich drücke ihm die Daumen, dass das Wetter in den nächsten Tagen noch günstig ist (relativ warm und nicht zu nass), dass er sich noch genügend Gewicht anfressen kann, um erfolgreich in den Winterschlaf zu starten.

During a hike at dusk, this small hedgehog ran across our path. It was about 14-15 cm long and obviously looking for food (worms, snails, insects). It is calculated that a hedgehog must have a body weight of about 500 g at the beginning of November, i.e. before the start of hibernation. The little guy in the picture has certainly not yet reached this weight. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the weather is still favourable in the next few days (relatively warm and not too wet) so that he can gain enough weight to start his hibernation successfully.
