Gjástykki is a rift zone in the northern reaches of the Krafla fissure swarm. The scoria cones and lava flows in this photo stem from the 1975-84 "Krafla fires". The fence was erected to keep sheep out and halt erosion.

Gjástykki ist eine Riftzone im nördlichen Bereich des Krafla-Vulkansystems. Die Schlackekegel und Lavaströme auf dem Foto stammen aus den sog. "Krafla-Feuern" 1975-84. Der Zaun soll die Schafe heraushalten und dadurch die Bodenerosion stoppen.
