Hólasandur

Hólasandur between Húsavík and Mývatn turned into a barren sandy desert due to overgrazing. Keeping out sheep with a fence and growing Nootka lupines has started to stabilize the area. Over time the lupines will probably become a problem as they overpower native plants.
The plant bottom right is a native juniper (juniperus communis) which in Iceland only grows as a low creeping plant.

I love the lush greens and earth brown colours and those awesome skies. The detail you've captured is wonderful, especially in the PiP with the close up of the Juniper.
