In onbruik - Obsolete

Tegenwoordig zijn brievenbussen oranje, ze waren rood. PostNL is het bedrijf dat de meeste post bezorgt en de geschiedenis ervan gaat terug tot aan 1799. Volgens de wet moet er een netwerk van brievenbussen blijven en op vijf dagen per week moet er post worden bezorgd. De hoeveelheid post is sinds 2000 gehalveerd. Bankafschriften? Twee maal per jaar of een maal per maand. Maximaal. Brieven van of aan andere organisaties? Per email of via een account. Reclamedrukwerk? Veel mensen hebben dit geblokkeerd.
Op de foto een brievenbus in Uitermeer, oostelijk van Weesp, langs de Vecht. Dit type brievenbus wordt in landelijke gebieden gebruikt en wordt geleegd tijdens de bestelronde.
Let op de kleurvlakken: de oranje brievenbus, het groene gras, de blauwe bank en afvalbak, het witte huis, de grijze weg en het bruine dak. De fietsers maken het levendig.

These days mailboxes in The Netherlands are orange, they used to be red. PostNL is the company which delivers most mail. Its history goes back to 1799. These days the law says the company must maintain a network for mailboxes and must deliver mail during five days a week, from Tuesday to Saturday. The amount of mail has diminished by half during last two decades. Bank statements? may be once a month or twice a year, at the most. Mail from or to organisations? Mostly by email or by creating an account. Printed commercial matter nonsense? Many people blocked this (and thus saving 34 kilo paper a year).
On the photo a mailbox in the hamlet Uitermeer, east of Weesp, along the river Vecht. This type of mailbox is used in rural areas and emptied during the delivery round of the post(wo)men.
Note the different colour planes in the photo: the orange mailbox, the green grass, the blue bench and rubbish bin, the white house, the grey road and the brown roof. The cyclists make the scene alive.
