Tegenwoordig zijn brievenbussen oranje, ze waren rood. PostNL is het bedrijf dat de meeste post bezorgt en de geschiedenis ervan gaat terug tot aan 1799. Volgens de wet moet er een netwerk van brievenbussen blijven en op vijf dagen per week moet er post worden bezorgd. De hoeveelheid post is sinds 2000 gehalveerd. Bankafschriften? Twee maal per jaar of een maal per maand. Maximaal. Brieven van of aan andere organisaties? Per email of via een account. Reclamedrukwerk? Veel mensen hebben dit geblokkeerd. Op de foto een brievenbus in Uitermeer, oostelijk van Weesp, langs de Vecht. Dit type brievenbus wordt in landelijke gebieden gebruikt en wordt geleegd tijdens de bestelronde. Let op de kleurvlakken: de oranje brievenbus, het groene gras, de blauwe bank en afvalbak, het witte huis, de grijze weg en het bruine dak. De fietsers maken het levendig. Its history goes back to 1799. These days the law says the company must maintain a network for mailboxes and must deliver mail during five days a week, from Tuesday to Saturday. The amount of mail has diminished by half during last two decades. Bank statements? may be once a month or twice a year, at the most. Mail from or to organisations? Mostly by email or by creating an account. Printed commercial matter nonsense? Many people blocked this (and thus saving 34 kilo paper a year). On the photo a mailbox in the hamlet Uitermeer, east of Weesp, along the river Vecht. This type of mailbox is used in rural areas and emptied during the delivery round of the post(wo)men. Note the different colour planes in the photo: the orange mailbox, the green grass, the blue bench and rubbish bin, the white house, the grey road and the brown roof. De foto bestaat uit drie verticale elementen: het staal van de brievenbussen, de bakstenen en de glazen deur. De verticaliteit wordt in evenwicht gehouden door de brievenbussen en de bakstenen, deze horizontale beweging wordt afgesloten door de verticale deur rechts. Achter deze deur, waarvan ik de klink expres deels heb weggelaten, zit diepte: de gang met een vierkant patroon van vloertegels. Verder zijn er sociale patronen aanwezig: krassen op het staal, waarschijnlijk van fietsen die er tegenaan worden gezet, en anti-reclame stickers: 7 van de 8 huishoudens willen geen ongeadresseerde reclame. Per huishouden scheelt dat 33 kilo papier per jaar (bron: milieucentraal, 2018). Achteraf had ik iets meer naar rechts moeten staan: ik vind de ruimte tussen de ganglamp en de muur krap. – – – The photo consists of three vertical elements: the steel of the mailboxes, the bricks en the glass door. The verticality is kept in balance by the horizontal mailboxes and the bricks, this horizontal movement is closed by the vertical door on the right. Behind this door is the depth of the photo: a hallway with a square pattern of floortiles. The handle of the door I omitted partially on purpose. There are also some social patterns: scratches on the steel, probably from bicycles which were placed against the steel. Also some stickers which indicate that no commercial folders should be delivered: 7 out 8 households do not want spam. For each household that is that a saving of 33 kilo paper a year (source: milieucentraal, 2018).
