Stolpersteine


Stolpersteine (‘struikelstenen’) voor het huis op het Merwedeplein 37-2 in Amsterdam. Hier woonde de familie Frank van 1933/1934 tot aan 6 juli 1942, toen ze onderdoken in het Achterhuis aan de Prinsengracht. Op 4 augustus 1944 werden de familie Frank en andere onderduikers gearresteerd in het Achterhuis. Via kamp Westerbork werden de onderduikers naar Auschwitz gedeporteerd.
In het huis aan het Merwedeplein begon Anne te schrijven in haar dagboek. Aanstaande week is het 90 jaar geleden dat zij werd geboren.
Otto Frank overleefde Auschwitz. Hij overleed in 1980.
Zijn vrouw Edith Frank-Holländer stierf door uithongering op 6 januari 1945 in Auschwitz-Birkenau.
Hun oudste dochter Margot Frank stierf in februari of maart 1945 door vlektyfus en uitputting in bergen-Belsen.
Hun jongste dochter Anne Frank stierf in februari of maart 1945 ook door vlektyfus en uitputting in Bergen-Belsen.

Here lived the Frank family from 1933/1934 up till 6 July 1942, the date when they went hiding in the Achterhuis (‘back house’, the Secret Annex). On 4 August 1944 the Frank family and other people hiding in the Achterhuis were arrested. First they were transported to camp Westerbork and on 3 september 1944 they were deported to Auschwitz.
In the house at the Merwedeplein Anne started to write in her diary. Next week it is 90 years ago she was born.
