Large and small

The larger mushroom wasn't very big - perhaps something like three-quarters of an inch across the cap - so you can imagine how teeny the little one was. So cute with its dainty fringe. Love the leather look of the larger one. Found at Bragg Creek Natural Area, during a day of botanizing on September 3rd.
Just discovered on the Internet that one of my very distant relatives in Chicago died on January 3rd, just five days after I got the Coroner's Office phone call about my brother. I was feeling concerned because I hadn't had a Christmas card from them (exaclty the same as with my brother, John, who also always kept in touch with them), so I decided to do a Google check in case there was an obituary - and, sadly, there was. My condolences, Jean and family. Bob will be greatly missed.
There is a temperature of -23C (-10F), windchill of -30C (-22F), this morning. Just couldn't face the thought of a three-hour walk this morning, even though the sun is shining brightly - and , anyway, I have important things to see to, which I mustn't put off any longer, especially writing and sending a few words about my brother for his service.
