Jamaican Poinsettia / Euphorbia punicea

Jamaican Poinsettia / Euphorbia punicea
Photographed in the ENMAX Conservatory at the Calgary Zoo on February 17th. This is a very attractive succulent shrub.

Euphorbia punicea, the Jamaican Poinsettia, has long red bracts with golden yellow flowers. Although it still contains a poisonous latex, which can be converted to the equivalent of gasoline, it is popular with honeybees and butterflies.
