Description: This abstract represents the anatomy of a leaf where a plant uses photosynthesis to convert sunlight into chemical energy, splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen for sustenance and growth. As each leaf absorbs CO2, it emits oxygen that sustains our existence illustrating the very reality of ecological interdependence that is under such grave threat today by myopic, misguided societies.

The various running cords depict flowing water, the Earth’s most precious resource and vibrant growth, the white splotches – sunlight, and the black rings – cells where photosynthesis takes place and xylem. The white spacer ring represents mitochondria, the structure where a plant transforms nutrients into usable energy for active use and storage. The shades of green represent chlorophyll while the shades of gray represent the earth where each plant is rooted. Both colors are intentionally soft to be aesthetically pleasing and meant to complement each other. The happy face represents abounding joy as each plant utilizes the sun to power each and every facet of its life – a model for humanity to imitate with the hope the day will come when we use clean, renewable energy to power every aspect of our lives.
