OMY this is sooooo sad !! Yes behind the name of the COVID-19 there is also a familly and friends who are in sorrow. Hope no one has been victim of this virus amongst your family and friends, William !!

Yes it is very sad Marie. Thank you for your hope but I did lose an aunt to COVID-19, a friend/neighbor and co-workers... but this was the sad reality during the darkest days in New York. :(

Sadly Erika, not anytime soon by the looks. Pretending it away in the USA certainly didn't work, calling it the "little flu" in Brazil didn't work either. A medical cure is the only hope since I'm skeptical any workable vaccine will be developed. Still, I hope it ends soon so peoples' lives can be spared and some sort of normalcy can return. Thank you Erika and likewise, stay well!

Malik, I'm happy to hear everyone in your family has been spared, Stay strong during the confinement since preventative measures have shown great effectiveness. NY is a good example -- from the worst place in the world it's now one of the safest pertaining to COVID-19 even though there still are cases and sadly, deaths too. Hope you and your family wear face masks or face coverings when outdoors and around other people since they do work. And yes, never forget the dead, their families and friends. Yes, young people also die. I read something like 39% of Brazil's COVID-19 deaths are under 50. As they have a "young" demographic, this isn't surprising. Until there is a cure, genetics appears to be the key how sick we'll get if we catch coronavirus or even if we'll survive. Not a good reality; hope an effective cure is found real soon.

Heartbreaking, yes, always, and still. And now that we hear the news of new infections from Beijing, we should all realize that the crisis is far from over and that we still need to deal with the virus and with each other responsibly.

I share your pain, William, for your poor relatives who have succumbed to disease... and human stupidity.
I wonder if there's going to be an end. PLENTY of things would have to change, but everything went back like before and even got worse in many ways...

Yes, it's really stupid how some forget or don't care about personal safety and that of others and so soon after such dark days be it in Italy, Madrid, NYC, etc. If only everyone would take simple precautions, the so-called second wave might not happen since it reality it doesn't have to happen and shouldn't be considered a foregone conclusion. :(

In no other country has the covid 19 been as aggressive as here. And only China and Spain hide the real data. My solidarity with all the ills people and my condolences for the dead.

Sadly, Spain is in a class by itself followed by China and then in no particular order by Russia, Iran, and Mexico to name a few. Also add the USA to the list considering states like Florida are concealing data. :( Also with re: to Spain, it's outrageous the EU doesn't say something since Madrid's actions are a slap in the face to every victim, their family, and friends. Stay strong and don't be discouraged. In solidarity -- HUMAN strong.

At least the situation is improving for New York, although that is little consolation for the bereaved.

Just the fact it feels safer now, does help. :) Let's hope New Yorkers choose wisely now that Governor Cuomo made his last daily press briefing and said he hopes not to have to be back.

Commiserations on the loss of your aunt, William. The second wave seems to be building before the first wave has broken. Scientists and health professionals are doing their best; one could only wish politicians had the same dedication. Here in Western Australia we appear to have missed much of the torment that has enveloped the rest of the world. I can only pray that this remains the case. Stay safe and well, please.

Thank you for your condolences Old Owl. Hopefully Australia can remain safe since it is one of only a handful of countries that acted quickly and proactively to avoid disaster. Hope there are no mistakes like happened in New Zealand and Iceland that have now led to small clusters that if not contained quickly could undo their good work. As for the USA, I doubt much changes until we have a new President that acts to stop it. Here in NY, though, thanks to an excellent job by state and local leaders, we're now one of the safest areas. :) Stay well!

My deepest condolences for the loss of people so dear to you.
Here in Italy, at the end of February many opposition politicians began to say that it was just a pneumonia like the others that struck and killed only the oldest and already weakened by previous illnesses and that the Government was exaggerating in taking such strict measures of prevention and lock down!


As if the lives of the old and the elderly didn't matter.
Of course there were people of all ages affected by Covid.
Fortunately, the Government and above all the Governor of my region, the Veneto, acted promptly...
Still, here, in Phase 3, there are various measures of prevention to follow. Most people do but, of course ! not everyone does not caring that Covid is still present and creeping on.

Thank you for doing this, William. We very much need to remember all the people we lost, and are still losing in much of the world. We need a way to mourn those we could not say good bye to, except maybe over the phone, if we were lucky, and those we could not have funerals for, where we could at least hug each other and cry together. As I have said before, we also need to remember the other victims, too: those who could not get proper medical attention because the hospitals were on the brink of total break down, those who were left to fend for themselves and did not make it, those who took their lives in despair at the loss of everything. In some places in Northern Italy, these uncounted victims were up to 4 times more that the official COVID deaths. I wonder how many there are in the countries where we know the numbers are not transparently tallied or in much of Africa where there's no way that they can test as extensively. We very much need to mourn for all of them and very much need such beautiful memorials as yours, to help us remember and, hopefully, if our politicians are not too busy worrying about money and power, plan so we can be better prepared for an invisible enemy that finds its strength in the very social texture of our communities.
Sorry for your terrible losses, William, and thank you so much for doing this.
